I agree....Nick has always been against going to 4 classes. It is watered down.

but it is as it is -- it's not the fault of thekids winning the games so why be so negative??
nobody - absolutely NOBODY from Simeon, in the media, nor anywhere else has ever tried to diminish or discount the great accomplishments of the Manual teams from the 90's..
so I saw his article as totally unnecessary and a gratuitous, petty, jealous swipe at Simeon, Morgan Park and any number of other recent State Championship winners from the Chicago area that he obviously feels have Championship trophies that are worth less.

I agree it's not the fault of the kids....I don't think he says that at all...

Even the Morgan Park coach and a SunTimes reporter agreed with him...

It's just an article comparing two 4peat teams

Is it true 5 out Limestone's top 6 players did not attend grade school in Bartonville?

What does it matter where they attended grade school? And you're counting the son of the head coach who moved into the Limestone district?
I'd say it looks like Eddie is smart enough to play the same game as everyone else is playing......
Any guess as to how many kids on Simeon, Morgan Park, even the championship Central & Manual teams who went to grade school in the same district as their high schools?

Yeah...I have no idea.....and I don't know how many Limestone players started HS in Limestone either....and I wouldn't count Matthew's son........I'm assuming they live in the district...

Hey...I really don't get hung up on all the recruiting......I get hung up on the fact public school fans only talk about private schools recruiting

LOL - yeah..........even when the private schools develop all their talent themselves & win their trophies with a team full of kids who all had been there since kindergarten!!

I am pretty sure all the Simeon/Orr/Morgan Park/Seton kids have grown up in their respective high school distrcits too... no transfers

I don't know about the Central kids, but most of the Manual kids went to Christ Lutheran for grade school. I know this because I had the misfortune of playing against them since I was at a different Peoria Catholic grade school in the early 90s

I think Mike Robinson went to Christ Lutheran as well.

I heard rumors that Marlon Brooks was actually living in Limestone's district, but most of the other players grew up and lived in the southside of Peoria, and they probably didn't live that far away from each other.

I remember going to a KMOX shootout in the mid 90s and watching Manual humiliate Oak Hill Academy. It was just amazing to me that a small public school, with around 1,000 students, could dismantle a Prep School that recruited the best High School basketball players from around the country.

I don't know what to make of the Limestone situation, but even with all of those transfers, they weren't a great team. 3A is so weak (outside of Morgan Park) that it is hard to get excited about a 3rd place finish. A 16 loss Central team wasn't that far away from duplicating what Limestone did.

I'm sure this mantra has been spoken in many private (and public) schools.

The "everyone is doing it" defense doesn't fly with me either.

You want to impress me? Play the hand your dealt. Do things the right way. Be competitive. You do those things and you will impress me more than a guy who doesn't but has a gaudy W/L record.

but even some smaller downstate high schools are benefiting from transfers..
who can forget a few of the more highly publicized ones...

In this case, the kid from Woodland just wanted to play football and Woodland didn't even have football...nowadays they co-op with Flanagan

but IHSA has kinda looked the other way when kids transfer to Simeon or have someone else take their ACT tests

The issue was not with Woodland or the kid, but with Mick Peterson showing a recruiting video over dinner to the kid and his parents.

I believe that those great mt.vernon teams were led by Eddie king and John Riley both of whom played at Bradley and were great players. Eddie king worked at bu as part of the administration and is a very distinguished guy and a great person. I hope I remembered Riley's first name correctly.

it is hard to find any championship team now a days in any sport that doesn't have a kid who relocated or commutes a long distance because the school is private
