His agent actually got him a great deal when he went there. The contract automatically stipulated that he'd get incentives if he won Coach of the Year.

However, unless his buyout increased (I think it was pretty small) this really just gave him a bump in salary, which is nice.

but I bet he appreciates being somewhere that he's not constantly being vilified by media & fan base

A very large portion of the KSU fan base dislikes him. A quick look at the goemaw board shows most KSU fans feel he was a downgrade, and didn't like taking someone with his track record (with his own players).

I was really sad to see him go out with such little class. He had a perfect opportunity for a fresh start, yet he continues to stretch the truth or tell outright lies regarding his tenure at Illinois. It's unfortunate, because I think he wants to be a good person, and he probably is very generous to many, but his insecurities clearly prevent his behavior from matching that desire.

As an Illinois fan, it's certainly very nice to watch a coach that is consistent in his attempts to instill confidence in his kids, and who clearly has the kids backs. While not perfect, it's clear the overall fan support of the kids has improved when the coach stands up for them and refrains from criticizing them to deflect blame when tough times hit.

Hopefully he'll find it at KSU, he certainly made some positive changes to his staff, and the competition isn't as high. We'll see how he recruits there.

any more, if a coach doesn't get caught cheating, attacking his own players or hurling sexual insults, and doesn't get arrested for stuff then he's already in a relative small category of ethical success that he deserves at least some kudos
