Here's another "officiating failure" in the news...involving that new rule on reviewing calls with contact....this time involving someone who is familiar to many...
In Florida Gulf Coast's final game one of their best players was given two marginally - even questionable flagrant calls - then ejected....
the refs erroneously gave technical fouls when the rule quite clearly calls for a personal foul only and no technical...
any ejection automatically then, by League rules, results in a mandatory 1 game suspension.
But the Commisioner of the A-Sun conference has reviewed all the facts and all the tapes and has overruled and claimed the officials erred...
...and were guilty of "officiating failure" - pretty harsh words for his refs.
Unlike the foul-up on the Jackie Carmichael call - these didn't affect the outcome (win or lose) of the game...
Bernard Thompson (6th in the nation in steals, btw) has now been fully cleared to play in the A-Sun Tournament...
