Yes, there's absolutely NO comparison between Hawk and McD. To say as much would clearly show one's lack of knowledge of the game.

Detroit - as you know - also had a guy go for almost 50 - and Detroit was racking up points by the bunches - finishing with 107...
reading the Detroit Daily News account - which is still searchable - you'll see Stan Albeck was quite concerned because Bradley simply could NOT get stops...Detroit was scoring on every possession...
I did not see that happen yesterday --
Hersey had WAY more of his points in the first half and pretty much only free throws in the final minutes of the game..
McDermott by stark contrast scored almost 60% of his points in the 2nd half - and in the final 4 minutes or so, after which Creighton never lost their double digit+ lead...McDermott score 13 pts, including a couple 3-pointers and some were less than 10 seconds into the shot clock..just sayin'.......
SERIOUSLY - why even take another shot when you're UP 16 POINTS and the clock is UNDER a minute!!! WSU had already subbed in their bench..
Yesterday's game was not a blowout either, and as far as I remember, CU couldn't stop WSU too often either.

And besides, how McDermott played is not our business. If Creighton fans were happy that he was scoring points to the end, so what? That's their perrogative. As I said, I think this one exception to the rule of holding onto the ball when the game is in hand won't bother most people.

I'm the one who brought up the Hawk. But not in a contentious way, as that quote makes it seem. All I said was Doug McDermott was "the best I've seen in the Valley in a long time, probably since Hersey."

Regarding the Detroit game, if someone believes the bench of a 20-4 team with national aspirations would be having fun signaling to their leading scorer how many points he had if the game against a 5-19 opponent was still in doubt, well....

The defense rests. Until Thursday at 6, when I hope our defense doesn't rest a minute!
