Yeah coach, I am serious. You all miss the point. If not able to have a brave as a mascot, why have a mascot? Not having a mascot wouldn't hurt us with the NCAA. Let's don't make our program a laughing stock. What part of illegal don't you understand?

Part of the incentive for getting a mascot is the extra revenue and name/logo recognition Bradley might get that could extend well outside of the midwest.
It has worked for other schools, and if BU came up with an appealing and marketable logo/mascot it could literally mean millions possibly if the sale of Bradley stuff like hats/shirts/etc. were actually driven by the appeal of the mascot they come up with.

Yeah, only problem is, with most fans, every suggested mascot would make us a laughing stock. Wow, look at that Bradley fan's hat, it's got a squirrel on it. Or it's got a clock on it. No Brave, no mascot. What part of illegal don't you understand?

I know that we have some name recognition for the Banana Slugs that we probably wouldnt otherwise, but I have never seen there merchandise, and I wouldnt want to buy it even if i could find it.

That's why I say scrap the mascot! All choices are ridiculous and embarrassing to the fine tradition that is Bradley Braves Basketball (and also the other sports).

I don't get why you need a mascot. If you can't have a Brave screw it. You're just forcing it. IU is one of the most storied programs of all time and we don't have a mascot, well we had to learn from the whole Hoosier Pete debacle in the late 70s early 80s, but thats another story. Seriously squirrels, clocks? Are you guys trying to provide fodder for road fans?

In the interest of political correctness, will Brebeuf high school be getting rid of their Braves? I hope not, but there will probably come a day when some activist or politician presses the school to give in.

Originally posted by Fetz86What other schools has that worked for that is similar to Bradley, as far as being a non-BCS school? I can think of nobody of the top of my head.
But honestly, Toledo needed something like an elephant... because they haven't had a successful enough basketball team over the years to drum up enough interest to sell gear.
I am not a big supporter of this marketing crap.
I think the product is what sells. If it is good enough - it will sell. So put a winning team on the floor and people will buy the gear.

The MVC soccer tourney is a conference thing not controlled by the NCAA right?
So, theoretically if Bradley were to ever qualify in volleyball, soccer, or women's basketball and be a top seed in a quadrant, they would lose out on the opportunity to host.
Likewise, I believe if they are in violation, they lose out on their part of the MVC's take when they host the NCAA men's tournament in St. Louis or elsewhere.
