  • Another thursday in the Lou?

According to my calculations, it seems the only way BU has a shot to escape Thursday night is to beat Creighton Wednesday or hope ISU absolutely soils their diapers and loses both remaining games while BU wins at Mo. State. Catching Evansville would take a combination of miracles. Does anybody else see something I dont? I was at the Drake game and I just knew that implosion meant another lonely Thursday in a 90% empty Scottrade Center...

I believe you are right. We need to win one more game than Isu to get out of thursday night Otherwise we lose the tie breaker. The drake lose really hurt. If we had won that game we would have had a great shot at 5th or 6th place. If you go to mvc fans.com they have the chances of seeds. Looks like Thursday night for bu again sadly.

Staying out of Thursday was my benchmark for success this year. Will I say we have improved? Absolutely. But if we are playing on Thursday then I am hesitant to say the program made the improvement I had hoped for

ISU plays at home against Missouri St the same night we play at home against Creighton while Evansville plays at Wichita. It's been a while since we've beat Creighton so we're gonna half to hope ISU tanks the last 2 games which includes them playing at UNI while we play at Missouri St. Evansville plays at home against ISU Blue. Not liking our chances to stay out of Thursday. We need to go 2-0 to have a shot.

People that downplay our improvement have little sense of where we were last year to this year. It's been an amazing turnaround and Geno and staff have made it a point to get this team mentally tough, and it's showed.

Thursday night or not, I am pleased with where we are right now. Yeah, still thirsting for more, but it's been a successful season in year 2 of the Geno era whether we end up with the 6th seed or 9th seed.

To me, if we beat Creighton on senior night, that will pretty much cap off a great season, and will send the seniors out on a high note, where they can reflect upon a season of tremendous strides and accomplishments.

Even still, I was hoping for a winning record at home in the Valley, and we've exceeded that.
We need to get even more competitive on the road, and in every game but 2 we WERE, but our lack of depth hurt in the final stretches of the games.

I'm not sure if I underestimated the talent on this team or if Geno and the staff have just gotten the absolute most out of what he's got, but pretty much from the start of the season til now, they have not disappointed much in the eyes of Braves fans when considering pre-season expectations.

At the end of the day, teams that play Thursday do not have a chance to win the tournament. I think every year you want to have a chance to do so. Thus, finishing 7th or worse is still disappointing, although we have improved. I would hope next years expectations are to be over .500 in Valley play with a chance to win in STL

After reading a few of these more recent posts some of you are really hard to please!
I can recall maybe 1 or 2 people at the beginning of the season thinking we'd be a .500 team and we did that, and could do better!!!

Of course, every year we want to be in the thick of the race, but "at the end of the day", this team didn't have what it takes to be a Valley champ or to win in St. Louis, due to the inconsistency our players have been in their careers and the lack of bench depth. Let's have realistic expectations.
Next season there is nothing concrete pointing that we are going to improve upon this season, though we'd like to think that under Geno's leadership and a true PG, we will.

Let's bask in some of the highlights of this season instead of feeling disappointed if we don't get a 6 seed or better.

+1 I'm completely satisfied. I've seen a style that I like and the team appears to be improving albeit running out of gas due to lack of bench. Next year is the true test!

Spot on LittleBrave! I hope we do play our way out of Thursday night. But we still have a great chance of quadrupling the number of Valley wins this year. That we still may end up playing on Thursday night shows just how deep the Valley has been this year.

hard to please?? Ha....as I have said many times - I root for BU to win every game - all losses are disappointing...
and I have believed and I have said since last season that I thought we had the talent to compete with at least half the Valley and do way, way better than the bottom of the league..
now we're really just a loss or so away from being one of the two bottom teams in the Valley...improved??? ..maybe, but apparently some are tickled pink just going from 10th to 8-9th!

Let me put it this way....

If I were setting out on a tough one-hour journey but midway there you forced me to take a detour...
The detour was long, difficult, filled with bad news, and seemingly almost all downhill...and it took THREE more hours just to get back on the original road and only a few meters beyond where I began the detour...

Then you said to me - why aren't you happy - aren't you improved from where you were an an hour ago - you're making progress and you're nearing your destination.??
My answer is of course I am finally glad I am getting to my goal, but had I not been forced to take such a historically bad detour I believe I'd have been closer to my goal three hours ago!

                            Really?!

Take a look at the links and tell me we are not VASTLY improved, especially in MVC play... I'll shut up and listen now.

we are certainly not going to agree on "vastly"...
                              there's a real possibility we're looking at going from 10th to 9th or 10th to 8th...
EVERYONE expected a minimum of that much improvement...

you can get giddy if you want about that being "vastly" improved...but I'd reserve the term "vastly improved" for when we are competing for some spot in the upper half of the Valley or even for a title...

In an interview our AD gave to the PJS 3 years ago (2/05/10) he spoke of guiding Bradley within a few years to
"competing on a regular basis for the championship.."

Then ironically one poster mocked him with a post that said...
"It's good that MC didn't say...
"I envision consistent 4th or 5th place conference finishes with a chance to compete in the NIT .."

so far the detour hasn't gotten us any closer to our goal...

4th would look pretty good right now as would an NIT bid
