I'm not sure he just abandoned everything at the end to allow the players to do whatever they wanted. Admittedly I only skimmed through the game pretty quickly last night and did not watch it in full detail. But from what I saw, I don't get the impression that Geno just gave everything up in favor of their players calling the offense.

We drove the lane successfully against insu, isu, and uic. I think we made the adjustment driving to the basket in the second half and we made an adjustment to defense going to the zone. IMO I think the coaching staff has done really well with the cards dealt.

Absolutely correct. As I said above....

Dan Dakich just said on the Illinois-Michigan game that Michigan may have the best offensive coach in America. But he just let his guard, Burke, just have 2 straight possessions where he ran no sets and just let him dribble and create for 35 seconds.

Allowing good players to make plays is coaching. That's what coaching is all about, in fact. Get players in the best spot to make plays.

Sometimes that is allowing them to read the floor and create...much like a running back deciding on cutback lanes.

That's a great point. I don't believe Geno just took the rest of the afternoon off and let the players call plays as they chose too. But what I think he does is he gives the players the freedom to create plays as the opportunities permit them too if initial set play does not work. I agree that that is what most good coaches do.

That doesn't mean this writer is correct in his/her assessment of the game. I would like to hear confirmation from Geno himself. If he did indeed do what this person claims he did, someone should ask him on his radio show this week.

Just because a flunky Chicago sports writer said we abandoned our game plan doesn't make it true. How does he know Geno's game plan? I doubt Geno let a Chicago sports writer sit in on practice this week.

Just sour grapes on the sports writers part I would guess.
