I would guess that the announcer, David Kaplan, got his information from Dave Reynolds. Probably was told what a super job our "great" staff is doing without any talent. More handing out of Kool Aid. We have probably the best two guards in the league, adequate bigs and yet we are told we have no talent. Do we need more talent? Yes, we certainly do. Are we without talent? No, we have talent, just very little of it recruited by our "great" staff (according to that award winning sportswriter DR.) Spin, spin, spin.
Adequate bigs??? For what league? The SWAC maybe? Certainly not for the MVC.
However in the late stages of the game when Bradley abandoned its offensive game plan and allowed its guards the freedom to penetrate, UIC found it couldn??™t match the Braves??™ athleticism.
So we made in game adjustments and found a way to steal a W
Wow...what surprise.......we abandoned our game plan and had Walt and DSE penetrate.........hmmmm.....hasn't that been the game plan all year?
Way to go BU... Now go out and finish strong... next two teams are beatable but have to play as a TEAM and lead with your athletic defense (and make layups, FT's, and 3's )
lefty - the game I saw - for the first 35 minutes we at least tried at times to get the ball down into the hands of our post players, then we shot several 3-pointers - then the final 5 min we converted only to driving the lane..
The UIC broadcaster repeatedly described Bradley as a team with no talent that plays a good game plan and still wins some..
I kinda disagree - we are a team of very talented guys - and we don't always play a good game plan but they play hard and they can literally carry us at times when we're in foul trouble or not passing & playing a good game plan
I did not watch the game live as I was at a family get together. But did just finish watching the game on tivo. Great fight and grit especially late in the second half and at the finish. Talk about taking advantage of every second! Definitely a make-up win after that equally miserable finish the other night against Drake. This definitely says a lot about the character of our team!
Regarding the talent, we definitely have the talent. It's the lack of depth due to some second tier players not playing as well as we hoped, and also due to only three consistent scorers. Until we get more depth on our bench, we will have to settle for lower finishes in the Valley. But yes, we do have enough talent on this team to be able to finish at or above .500 every year, and we need to continue this so we don't repeat seasons like we had the last two years. Of course lack of injuries and some luck go a long way toward that as well.
I think while it's good to recruit better athletes that can withstand the rigors of a long season, it may be more important to recruit better shooters and players who have a good grasp of fundamentals. If we have better shooters and depth, we can win more games even if it means having players having to spend additional time in the weight room during the off season.

Really I was just responding to the "game plan" that driving lane isn't apart of it when we know that is one of our strengths and have been doing it all year.

We have talent. We just need more, especially off the bench, and to replace the seniors we will be losing next year.
I doubt if we added every kid on the UIC team, that any would make our starting lineup and most wouldn't play at all.......even given our severe lack of depth..
I don't know where they got their info - they were dead wrong about all the new players we have and how we lost so much talent (Taylor Brown & Donivine Stewart?) and that Geno is starting from scratch with no talent as of he was just hired last month and we don't have any juniors or seniors and nobody who can score or play defense....
I'm wondering if they obtained some outdated Bradley media guide from early last year. I just don't get how they can be so missguided considering that they did mention that Bradley is one of the most improved teams in Division I this year.
I don't know who the play-by-play announcer was today, but the analyst Dave Kaplan is a long time sports talk host and reporter on WGN radio. Considering that Bradley hardly gets any media coverage in Chicago despite their large alumni base here, this does not surprise me that Kaplan and the other announcer were so missinformed.

I only saw the second half of the game
Agree. The Braves main threat all season has been Walt's driving.
At this point, I agree. Crawford, Hodges, Shayok, Bell, and Pickett. Other than one player, I haven't seen too much production from these guys.
I like Pickett.
I'm not sure how much time Bell and Crawford get next season.
Shayok has been a disappointment.
Hodges.....
I'm hoping the players we have coming in next season changes that and RC can get some talent to come here and play!
Pickett has certainly done a nice job this season, especially during the Valley portion of the season. Crawford has seemed to digress recently while Bell seems to be showing more flashes of potentially stepping up his game more consistently. Shayok also seems to have stalled out in recent weeks.
Hodges who????
Yeah, I hope the players coming in next season can step in quickly, but that will take some time for the team chemistry to lock in. A big key to next season will be how many of the above players step up to the next level. I think Shayok and Bell will be HUGE keys to how well this team does next year until the other new players get their feet wet.
