  • ISUR Jackie Carmichael - MMA in the MVC?

    ISU Rebird JC's new nickname:

    'Hai Karate'

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    WITH APOLOGIES TO 'OFFSPRING'
    You gotta' keep'em separated

    Like the latest fashion
    Like a spreading disease
The players are strappin' on their way to the coliseum
Getting weapons with the greatest of ease

The teams stake their own court floor locale
And if they catch you slippin' then it's all over pal
If one guy's colors and the other's don't mix
They're gonna bash it up, bash it up, bash it up, bash it up...

Hey - man you talkin' back to me?
    Take him out
    You gotta keep 'em separated

Hey - man you disrespecting me?
    Take him out
    You gotta keep 'em separated

Hey they don't pay no mind
If you play in the MVC you won't be doing any time
    Hey come out and play

By the time you hear the whistle
    It's already too late
One goes to the locker and the other to the bench
One guy's wasted and the other's a waste

It goes down the same as the thousand before
    No one's getting smarter
No one's cares about the score
Your never ending spree of fouling, kicking, and punching
Is gonna hurt your own team, hurt your own team, hurt your own...

Hey - man you talkin' back to me?
    Take him out
    You gotta keep 'em separated

Hey - man you disrespecting me?
    Take him out
    You gotta keep 'em separated

Hey they don't pay no mind
If you play in the MVC you won't be doing any time
Hey, hey, come out and play

I was sitting around at the gym watching the end of the Indiana/Mich. St. game and the karate kick came into conversation without my probing. It did make national sports news. I have no love lost for ISU but they really got screwed with the call IMO. It should have been called a foul and WSU's ball but when they did not call it and went back to the monitor, well!

Regrettably...I agree. I do not like ISU either--but I have seen Carmichael kick his legs out frequently as he rebounds--and must admit he is not a dirty player. ISU got screwed in that game...and even bigger than that bad (late) call was WSU being allowed to send their best FT shooter to the line--not the guy who allegedly was fouled. ( But if someone has to get screwed--better them than us)
      Bradley football--undefeated again this year

Sure he kicks his legs out frequently but this time someone was in the way of his foot, so it was an obvious foul intentional or not.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Amen + 100 .Anyone who doesn't think a foul shouldn't have been called is just dead wrong. Now should it have been intentional or not that can be debated. That is a judgement call but aren't all calls judgement calls?

Exactly. Not all elbow hits while rebounding are intentional, either, but they are called as fouls. They may happen due to bad mechanics, and if the player refuses to work to correct their mechanics, they will forever be labeled a dirty player, and refs will watch our for you.

I recall it being said that "officials don't decide games." That's all.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

The problem is that the foul was not called right away. They had to go to a monitor and call it. Yes it was a foul but there are plenty of fouls which are not called throughout a game.

In short I believe college refs are overall, not that good. It's not their fault. It's a part time job. The game is getting faster and there's a lot more money riding on these games. Why does the NCAA still treat refs like part time employees. They need to start hiring full time refs IMO. The game deserves it and the money is there, especially if they are talking about paying the players.

Imagine refs with the time to watch tapes of what they did incorrectly, check out the teams they will be reffing, learn the rules book inside out and getting into better shape. The NCAA is getting what they paid for IMO.
