mistakes happen - but ISU would have had the opportunity to ask for a correction of the wrong FT shooter - until the next stoppage...

but once the play resumed and then the next stoppage - ISU forfeited any chance of asking the refs to place the correct FT shooter at the line.
Unfortunately for ISU - the most avoidable aspect was that Carmichael had that rebound easily - nobody else was close - and he did not need to nor should he have gone after it with his foot in an offensive position.

YahooSports is labeling it Carmichael's "karate kick"

This site plays it up even funnier - "..player recreates scene from Enter the Dragon"

The problem is, they didn't call it a foul in the first place- only after Marshall asked for a review if a hit above the shoulders. And it wasnt even above the shoulders. If it was called a foul (flagrant or regular) right away, I feel most ISU fans wouldn't be complaining as much. Also, as DC said, no reason Cotton shouldn't be shooting them. And tornado, Muller did ask the refs about Early shooting the FT's and the refs told him something, so they felt it was correct. Still not certain it was

        This could get interesting...

@Pg_Benson: ISU coach Dan Muller said he exchanged e-mails with MVC office Monday to get some clarification on Carmichael tech. Valley statement coming.

@Pg_Benson: It appears Tekele Cotton should have shot FTs instead of Early. Cotton shooting 58.6 percent at line, Early 80.9. Oh, boy ... #isuredbirds

That's my problem with the call as well, I know refs can go back and review for flagrant fouls but when it happens right in front of them and don't make ANY call and then review a call and give an F1...I don't get it. I've seen it called with offensive player makes contact with a defender who is up in his face and the elbow comes down...no foul call either way and then they review and call F1.....

NCAA has dug this hole themselves by playing a shell game every season with rules - if you don't like any new NCAA rule then wait a few months, they'll change it...
How many games are we going to see where the very "best" & most experienced refs in D-I are confused by the requirements of this rule...
If ISU were battling for 1st place I can see where the MVC might give the situation more concern - but I can't imagine the conflicts if they rule the last few minutes of the game need to be replayed as some Redbird fans hope...

The MVC is gathering it's publicists and director of officiating now to try to create an official release that makes it sound like they are taking this seriously and have investigated it thoroughly. However, I predict they will apologize to Illinois State and Coach Muller for the multiple screwups (missing the "foul" initially, then reviewing the video and saying it involved contact to the head when it does not appear it did, then calling a Flagrant 1 foul that does not meet the NCAA's criteria [elbow], then enforcing it as if it was a technical foul, and not a Flagrant foul, and allowing the wrong player to shoot free throws), but then in the end they will say the matter cannot be rectified, and the case is considered closed and the officials involved will be privately reprimanded.

If ISU thinks they have any chance at the Valley ruling in their favor and replaying the final minutes of this game they are sorely mistaken, be lucky if the officials admit to being wrong , wrong player shooting the freethrows did not lose them this game, a bad rule and them not taking care of the ball (Hills turnover) plus not guarding Early with a bigger defender cost them the game.

I agree with you on Cousins and I respect Mueller for what he has done so far, he is running his team the way he thinks is right and has them playing well.

I feel like at least on official from the crew calling any game should have to be available after the game to meet with the press. This will never happen, but these guys need to be held accountable at a higher level than they are now. Also in Pollard's case I don't understand if an official has continued problems in one arena why he is asked to go back there. I have seen Tim Jank. get completely irate one time in his career. Pollard mucked up a game with multiple high elbow technical and other calls that had no effect on the game. This lead to Jank getting tossed and a game in which fans came to WATCH THE ATHLETES being controlled by a 50yr old man.

Looked like he got the chin of the Wichita player, no doubt there was no intent but then Tyshon has been called for an elbow on a rebound when in fact he came down with the elbows tucked in yet because he was in the air getting the rebound in traffic his elbow accidently caught the opponent above the shoulder as he was coming down, he never swung his elbows out yet because of the rule he got called, rule needs to be changed .

The biggest question I have is....

Why did JC flare his leg out in the first place? It's not a normal thing to do...

SNL could do an awesome Jackie skit..
Scenes from typical everyday activities, dates.. interrupted by in-opportune leg flares

Or hookup Jackie with Molly, she likes to kick, too
