But the description of this shot as a "full-court buzzer beater" might be slightly exaggerated. It went in the basket with about 13-14 seconds before the whistle that ended the 3rd period of that game, so technically it might not be considered a buzzer beater.
Also, as can be seen below, the shot was not quite "full-court", as it appears the girl is almost to the opposite free throw line.
I saw that on the news last night. Pretty cool. I was certain they said the refs huddled for a long time and then awarded 3pts. I was thinking it should have only been worth two because of the bounce?
I'm sure she'll remember this her whole life, but what was she thinking heaving this with over 10 seconds left in the quarter?
If you listen closely, as the other team shot the ball, the students in the crowd can be heard doing the old early "3, 2, 1...". My guess is that she also heard that and without looking at the clock assumed she was nearly out of time and chucked it. If that's not the case, the who knows.
There was a Valley game about 20-25 years ago that I saw on TV and recall one of the teams was Drake but can't recall the other...
where a battle for a rebound off a missed FT - led to the ball being bounced hard off the floor as one of the players ripped the ball hard away from the other,
and it went right up into the basket..
that's the only other time I have seen a ball bounced into the hoop in a game.

1982....Drake vs Tulsa....Bulldogs were up 1 with 11 seconds to go....this was before there was a 3-point shot.....DU's Terry Youngbauer misses the front end of a 1-and-1....Drake's Leon Van Hook and Tulsa's Bruce Vanley grab the rebound simultaneously, and it bounced off the floor into the hoop, giving DU a 3-point lead.
Awesome DUB - I kinda knew one of you Drake guys would have a great memory...
were you at that game? Maybe have video of that??
I was there. I think I might actually have video on an old Beta tape.
Drake fans often refer to the "Curse of Leon Van Hook"....after that incredible stroke of good look, we endured 25 years of terrible basketball...as if all our luck ran out for a quarter century.
Have a chance to hit a half-court shot to win your college tuition? What better strategy than asking a man who spends most of his time in gymnasiums to take the shot for you if the folks running the contest … Continue reading →
The most incredible half-court shot of this year's college basketball season wasn't made by a player. It came from a cheerleader. Ashlee Arnau, a cheerleader at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss., has tried to make a half court shot … Continue reading →
If it's true that misery loves company, then Appalachian State center Brian Okam should be a bit happier these days. Now he's not the only player this season to miss a free throw 10 feet short of the rim. Shanteona … Continue reading →
