  • CBSSports Jerry Palm predicts brackets- currently has 3 MVC teams in

Jerry Palm, who now works for CBSSports.com, has updated his prediction for the 2013 NCAA tournament-
He has Creighton, Wichita State, and Indiana State making the NCAA tournament, but .-
CBS Sports is helping you get ready for March Madness with the latest news, picks, and predictions for the 2025 NCAA Basketball Tournament Bracket.

He has Creighton as an 8 seed, and Wichita State as a 10 seed. However, he predicts Indiana State as one of the last 4 teams in, and has them playing in the Play-In round as a 12 seed. I hope his predictions are accurate, though I am not as optimistic.

As of right now, who are you putting in their place if they aren't in your bracket? St. John's? Virginia? Iowa? There simply aren't enough teams to fill the bracket if all 3 MVC teams aren't in...

You have to remember the past- if the selection committee has to decide between a borderline MVC team, and a borderline team from a BCS conference, they will almost always go with the BCS team. Multiple MVC teams have been left out with RPIs of around 30 or better.
Also, there will be teams that get auto bids that nobody is expecting. It happens every year. Usually 6 or more auto bids go to teams that are upset winners in their conferences. That bumps everyone else down a few notches. Indiana State is listed as one of the last 4 in, so guess who might get bumped.

And as of now, Joe Lunardi has Arizona State, and St. Johns in, which Palm does not, though Lunardi also has Indiana State in.

Palm has 7 Big East teams in, but it's possible they get as many as 9 in the tournament. There are too many variables, and I do not think InSU can get to the tournament without another bad loss.

Yeah, two teams that I would not be surprised could get in that no one expects are St. Mary's and Northwestern. St. Mary's has a great record, but has not beaten anyone, even Gonzaga. Northwestern is tied with Illinois with a 4-7 Big Ten record, but has beaten Illinois, Minnesota and Baylor. Now I'm saying Northwestern deserves to be there, and yes I am being far fetched with that pick. But those are the types of "wild card" selections that sometimes crop up.

Maybe a better example would be two or three very underserving SEC teams getting picked like Arkansas or Alabama. Frankly that conference is so weak that they don't deserve more than Florida, Kentucky and Mississippi. But look for Missouri and maybe at least on of those aforementioned teams to get in, while potentially keeping one or two Valley teams out.

I still think Wichita State is vulnerable with games at Illinois State, Indiana State and Creighton yet to play and a RPI in the mid-40s and a SOS in the mid-110s.

Indiana State's problem will come if they lose any more games other than Wichita State as all other opponents are RPI >125 including a couple > 175. Sycamores already have 3 losses to 150+ RPIs. Two more bad losses will be a big issue.

Both teams need to make sure any Arch Madness loss is to the other team (WSU or ISU) or Creighton and maybe UNI.

Jeff Borzello talks about his bracket for the mock selection committee
He has Wichita State as a 9 seed
He has Creighton as a 12 seed plaing Illinois
He has Indiana State as a 13 seed playing Wisconsin

but in this earlier entry he doesn't seem to have Creighton in at all and has indiana state as the automatic qualifier

and the loss of starter Nerlens Noel has the voters in the mock selection sending Kentucky to the NIT and snubbing them for an NCAA bid...
              yeah.........wake me when that happens........

Kentucky missing the NCAA Tournament might not be so far-fetched. They got absolutely mauled at Tennessee today. Maybe they will draw Creighton again in the NIT since CU is doing everything in their power to lose their NCAA Tournament bid.

I think we can count Indiana State out now, too.

                      Auburn fans get revenge??
Mississippi was 17-2 and 8-0 in the SEC and everyone would have thought a lock for the NCAA..but they are now a bubble team...
Maybe Henderson shouldn't have done that little victory prance at Auburn...
