I haven't followed Chicago State all that much except to note that they have been consistently one of the worst D-I programs since they became D-I in 1984.
...and for the last decade - and they've had corruption and horrible coaching to boot - and the great city of Chicago deserves much better...so I am pulling for them to get better
This year does seem different as head coach Tracy Dildy seems to be making a little headway ... ?
Since 1986 they've had only one winning season, and out of those 26 seasons, 19 of them were single digit win-seasons, and only one exceeded even 12 wins..
but after starting with nothing in '10-11, Dildy is doing a bit better this year...
They are currently 7-16 with 3 of their losses in OT, and possibly (with games left against NJIT, Urbana, Nebraska-Omaha, UTPA, EIU, UVU, Houston Baptist, then their tourney) - on target to get as many as 12 wins - for only the third time in nearly 30 years...and all but one of their top 6 players returns next year..
If they could build their program into a consistent winner and get some of the Chicago talent - maybe they'd even be a potential replacement for the MVC teams that bolt for greener pastures...
they're even drawing a bit better - with historically low crowds of under 100 in recent years...
they have only hosted 8 home games so far but drew 2691 for one of them and 1159 for another..they even drew 743 for an early seaosn game against a D-II
