Just when schools thought their choice of nicknames and mascots was safe again, now another threat is looming. This time it is bureaucratic government people who feel it is the ever expanding role of government to police the nicknames and mascots of schools.
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights is asking a federal agency to issue an order aimed at prohibiting the use of ???American Indian mascots, names, nicknames, slogans, chants and/or imagery??? in the state??™s schools.
If this kind of silliness gets passed, it would affect hundreds of schools nationally, maybe thousands. So much for free speech.
