  • Does the PJS Screen its Hires?

It is an embarrassment to the Peoria community that the Peoria Journal Star has Kirk Wessler on staff.

In Wessler???‚¬?„?s article in today???‚¬?„?s PJS

he reveals the enormity of his idiocy in the following passage, ???‚¬?“Lifted from a "C" by the quiz they almost aced Tuesday night, when they pounded Wright State, 88-49. I say "almost" aced, because of one glaring shortcoming.
The Braves don't rebound very well. The final box score shows they outboarded the visitors from Dayton, 41-38. But BU was in arrears most of the night and got whipped, 16-9, under the Raiders' basket. This resulted in Wright State outscoring BU 13-6 on second-chance points. No biggie on this night, but a certain way to get beaten by better opponents.???‚¬??

Kirk, for the record, Bradley pulled down 32 rebounds under the Raiders???‚¬?„? basket - they are called defensive rebounds. So no, they did not get ???‚¬?“whipped under the Raiders???‚¬?„? basket???‚¬?? as you concluded with your dazzling intellect. Bradley did pull down 9 offensive boards, but Kirk ???‚¬?¦ those were pulled down under the Braves???‚¬?„? basket.

Wessler has a lot to give thanks for this holiday season ???‚¬??? primarily that there is someone out there foolish enough to pay him to write.

I have to agree with this comment. Plus when you look at the stats, Bradley shoots 54% for the game and Wright state shoots 33% for the game which means a lot less offensive rebound opportunities for the Braves. If you take misses, Wright State had 43 opportunities for Offensive boards (jumps to 51 if you count missed free throws), and Bradley had 27 opportunities for Offensive boards (32 if you count missed free throws). Percentage wise, Wright State got an offensive rebound on 37% (31% with free throws) of their oppurtunites, Bradley was at 33% (28% with free throws). Not as bad as much of a disperity as you might think.

KW's hate for Les gets more obvious with every article, don't post this on the other board or the ISU moderator will delete it as you just can't criticize anybody associated with the PJS or his 2 or 3 Les hating buddies that post over there.....

Be careful, guys, KW might just award you one of his Kirk's Jerks award--

As somebody famous once said, never argue with a man who has a pen in his hand.

I also can't quite understand the compulsion to try to find something bad to complain about with this team. I am sure there wil be some future stinkers of games that will deserve criticism. But Bradley just dominated WSU from start to finish, and put them away early-- something I can't recall any prior Bradley teams ever being able to do well, even against bad teams. Yet this team has had blowouts in 5 of their 6 wins, so far. For a team with so many deficiencies, I find that amazing!

I find the blowouts amazing too. You would think that a team that blows people out (even a bad team is hard to blow out) that they would have faired better in the Tenn Tech and MSU game. When the threes are falling points add up fast and that has been a mainstay in the blowouts. We have not shot poorly from the arc in our losses if I remember right (correct me if I am wrong) but we just did not have as many good looks in the guts of the game. We had great looks last night against WSU.

He can call me what he wants

I know this, after his inane comments in today's paper, nobody will be calling Wessler a basketball expert ... or a decent sports journalist for that matter.
