Alex Collins is a highly rated high school running back from Florida who wanted to sign with Arkansas. But his mother refused to co-sign his National Letter of Intent, then stole the letter so Alex couldn't fax it to Arkansas. She wanted him to go to Miami (where he originally had verballed). So Alex got another NLI and had his father co-sign it instead. Now his mother has hired Johnnie Cochran's law firm to represent her interests.
I am surprised we haven't heard more stories like this. I suspect the kid's mother had been "influenced" to guide him to Miami, and is now jilted by his decision to go to Arkansas. She probably feels she'll lose out on some of his future "earnings", and wants to cash in.
