  • Greg McDermott complaining about Iowa State's loss to Drake

I saw this thread on the ValleyTalk board. Thought it was interesting. Iowa State lost to Drake when Drake scored with 4.4 seconds left, then a last basket by Iowa State was disallowed. McDermott is now whining that instead of reviewing the last shot, the refs should have reviewed Drakes shot with 4.4 seconds, and put more time back on the clock. He thinks that would have allowed Iowa State's shot to count.

What a dummy! If they had stopped the game to review that shot, then Drake would have set up their defense better and the last 4 second would have been totally different, and a lot harder for ISU to get a decent shot. What a whiner.

OK to whine about the 4.4 seconds, but do it then not after the game. According to the Des Moines' article he does in fact take the blame for not complaining at the time.

I thought McDermott was a whiner when he coached at UNI. Seemed like he was always complaining about something, and was constantly arguing to have referees review the tape for clock/timing issues.

In fact, I'll guarantee something similar will happen during the BU-ISU game on the 16th.....BOOK IT!

And I guarantee we get a shafting from the officials. There's NO WAY McDermott wants to get swept by the Valley, and you can bet your bottom dollar Iowa St plays their best game of the year against BU. We should beat them, but smart money says we won't.

If Drake, a team, who in my opinion, will finish midpack at best in the MVC can beat Iowa State, I like our chances on Saturday.

I like Bradley's chances too.....but don't get too cocky. Iowa State is not a bad team (not good either)....and it is a road game for BU, even though the game is not on ISU's campus.

Drake was able to pick apart ISU's defense. I think Bradley will be able to get a lot of good looks.

I never realized how much Weber whines about the officiating until I sat a few rows behind the Illinois bench at the Sears Centre for the game against Bradley. He does stand out on the court and whines nearly the entire game. His trademark whiny pleading with upturned hands is just pathetic enough that he never gets a technical foul. But he must think it works on the officials eventually. Illinois did get some bad calls in the second half of the game.
