  • Sam Maniscalco scores 39 points in win

Sam is playing well, and was the leading scorer again with 39 points. St. Patrick's is 4-1.

Sam just got some coverage from Dave Telep (Scout/Insider recruiting service), and here is a clip of what he had to say about Sam,
"St. Patrick made it look easy against Brother Rice Tuesday night courtesy of one stellar game from a Bradley signee. Sam Maniscalco scored 15 of his game-high 39 points in the second quarter..."

        Tornado,

You and DC seem to have all the stats so I wondered if you would be kind enough to tell us if Sam's player ranking in Illinois or nationaly changed much after the outstanding summer during AAU time and now first part of the high school season he is having. The more you read about this guy the more you think JL got a big time steal.

          Tornado,

New Guy, once the school basketball season starts, most of the rating services will wait until all the holiday tournies are over to begin assessing the individuals.
But here is what I know.

At the beginning of the summer, Sam Maniscalco was zero stars, and now
          he is listed this way:

          scout/Insider: 2 STARS

          Rivals: 3 STARS

Chicagohoops #12 ranking in Illinois Class of 2007 (up from mid-20's last summer):

Here is an article from last summer detailing Sam moving up:

Sam was listed on the 2nd team All-City in Chicago:

I find it surprising that Sam hasn't actually dropped in the ratings, as generally when a kid commits to a mid-major, his stock seems to drop.

A perfect example was Mike Bizoukas. He was a virtual unknown as a junior, then gained a bit over the summer. But when he announced he was going to sign with UNI, he was finally listed by the major services as zero stars.

Then just as soon as he signs with DePaul, the national services skyrocket the kid.
Now he is listed in the Top 40 among point guards nationally, and has 3 STARS by scout (compared to 2 for Sam), and all this skyrocketing took place between August and November, when the kid isn't even playing AT ALL, so it is NOT based on any peformance by the player, only on the perception by the rating services because of who he signs with.

Just to show that the people who still know these kids the best are in total disagreement, just look at chicagohoops, who have Sam rated as high in Illinois as Bizoukas is rated in Indiana, which just happens to be way less deep in talent.
So obviously chicagohoops has not boosted Bizoukas just because he signs with DePaul.

              Thanks for the kind words.
I am impressed that Bradley fans are so much more informed than a lot of teams' fans, and there are a lot of them who are anxious to know more about the team and recruits.
We love it when posters find great articles and useful info on the team and players.
              Thanks.

Here is another national article written by top recruiting guru Van Coleman,
                mentioning both Sam Maniscalco:
"6-foot-2 combo Sam Maniscalco (Bradley) from Chicago St. Patrick's had 39 points in his squad's 67-49 victory over Chicago Brother Rice. He really stroked it from the perimeter and dominated off the dribble for St. Pat's."

                and Matt Roth:
"Another pleasant surprise in Peoria was the automatic shooting touch of 6-foot-3 combo Matt Roth from nearby Washington (Ill.). He had 27 and 25 in consecutive games, hitting 10-of-17 from beyond the arc over the weekend. He is a deadly shooter who has Mo Valley to Big Ten interest."

as well as a bit about the Trusted Choice Tourney and Decatur Christian.
CBS Sports features live scoring, news, stats, and player info for NFL football, MLB baseball, NBA basketball, NHL hockey, college basketball and football.

Sam's team, St. Patrick's, played Friday night in a tough East Suburban Catholic Conference game at Jim Les' old high school, Niles Notre Dame.
As he has in every game for St. Pat's, Sam was the leading scorer with 20 points and he had 6 steals as St. Pats beat Notre Dame 58-50.
