Maybe it has something to do with the fact that both Parker and Nunn played all 4 years for the varsity at Simeon, something that no other player before them had done, not even great former Simeon stars like Derrick Rose, Nick Anderson. Ben Wilson, Bobby Simmons, or Deon Thomas. Until their class, Simeon had a strict rule that freshmen were not allowed to play for the varsity.
Just staying at the same high school for 4 years is becoming a rarity in Chicago these days.
"retiring" any high school player's number sets a bad precedent...we've seen a whole lot of examples lately of "unretired" numbers, statues torn down, and awards stripped..
