  • SIU may lose Jeff Early for next game

SIU's leading rebounder and 2nd leading scorer Jeff Early my get a 1 game suspension for a flagrant-2 foul in last night's game. Coach Barry Hinson was expecting a ruling to come from the MVC office today, but there has not been any official word yet. If he is suspended 1 game, he would miss SIU's game Sunday against Creighton.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — In the list of disasters SIU’s men’s basketball team has endured and produced this season, Wednesday’s ejection of Jeff Early may incur implications past one game.

Well that one probably won't hurt them since they probably would have lost anyway....

not much description of the incident there - but elsewhere Barry Hinson said
"I think there were two culprits, but the second guy gets caught," Hinson said."
..even many of the fans who were there and who posted on the UNI board and elsewhere didn't see much but apparently a replay showed a flagrant and intentional knee below the belt.

but - here's an interesting story on how the SIU fans are very loyal...
they are proud that they are still drawing well despite the downturn in their program..
        and..
"Fans continued their uptick at SIU Arena ...and did something impressive at halftime.
They stuck around to see the second half of SIU’s 70-56 loss, with the largest halftime deficit in arena history.
        “Most crowds,
when you’re down 26 at half, they don’t come back. They leave,” said SIU coach Barry Hinson.
“And what I saw tonight just absolutely blew my mind, what our crowd did."

They also point out that they are getting over 2,500 every game in walk-up and student ticket sales!!!

"SIU (8-10, 1-6 Missouri Valley Conference) didn’t draw more than 3,700 fans in a single home men’s basketball game last season."
The Salukis are averaging 4,855 fans per game this season, more than 1,500 more than last season."

Barry Hinson is great for a program. He is a PR master.
