    blowouts

Can't remember a period in BU history when blowouts were so common. Even bad teams of recent memory were competitive. No rebounding and attrocious shooting by bench guards key.

Of course we don't have much depth, and I did not at all expect a win here tonight even though I hoped we could steal one here. It's the development of the bench that greatly concerns me, AND this is not the same team that took Michigan and WSU to the final minute or two in Peoria. WE being out did not cause all of this.

Yes, we will get some reinforcements in here next year, and it's up to Geno what he wants to do with JP. I haven't given up on him yet, but obviously something is not right with him lately. But you have to remember that it will take time for all of the new pieces to gel next year, especially when you lose a great player like DSE. A lot of people are kind of downplaying his loss next year, but him not being here will have a much larger impact than people are willing to admit. Ditto with losing Eastman, and maybe not so much with Milos, but even he is one less player you have. So while I have hopes for this team in two years, next year may not be as pretty as many are hoping, and there were some on the chat that agreed with me on this.
J.P. has been consistently bad as soon as we start the conference season for 2 seasons, he is not going to help us get to the upper half of the Valley so we need immediate help at that position for next season if we ever expect to finish higher then 6th.
DSE is really the only one that will be hard to replace because of his defense, the others are the reason why we continue to struggle as far as beating any good teams and our record since they have been here is very bad.

Thought Marshall should have taken the press off when we were down 20 but I guess he liked rubbing it in our face, what goes around usually comes back right in your face, his time will come .

Guessing Marshall will not be a Wichita "when his time comes"---bet he is headed up the food chain in the very near future(like Tubby--Altman--Stallings --etc) Anyway---let's flush this game down (maybe double or triple flush) and re-focus to come back home and break our 7 game losing streak Tuesday to ISU Red--THAT would help make up for tonight's debacle for me
            Bradley football--undefeated again this year

but if we are this much worse with jus ONE player - Will Egolf, out of the lineup - then are you feeling easy about next year when we lose Will, our best defensive player DSE, and "glue guy" Jake?
We need more reinforcements and we need some of the reinforcements that are currently sittin gon the bench to mature very quickly and contribute.

well - if last year is included in your "history" and "recent memory", then the blowouts were even more frequent last year - I just hope fans remain very patient - because as I said elsewhere, we lose a lot after this year and a lot more after next year - and currently getting next to zero contribution out of our recruiting classes of 2011 & 2012.
Wichita gets routinely more than half their production from players who have never played a game at Wichita before this season (Early, Armstead, Wiggins, VanVleet, Baker, Lufile..)..

I think that Doug Shanks meant in the last two years, I don't think his comment was exclusively meaning this season. And while I agree that we are getting very little, Tyshon Picket would disagree with zero from the recent recruiting classes. In my head I think Geno is doing OK, with recruiting, but it hasn't produced much. That being said, two of our top 3 recruits for 2012 have yet to play. I'll take a wait and see approach, but if we're playing on Thursday next year I will be extremely disappointed in the progress of our recruits. Because we are losing 3 starters on a team that isn't exactly rocking the world...

I have no problem with that at all, especially when so many other teams ahead of them in the polls are losing. He has a job to do and that's to put his team in the best possible position to make some noise in March. Hopefully, we'll be able to do that someday!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

Fred Van Vleet should never have gotten out of Illinois. I am more and more impressed with him every time that I see him.

Losing Milos and Jake will be like adding two scholarship players where there weren't two before. I think Walt will slide over nicely to the 2 with Fields playing the point. Then you have the 3 manned by some combo of Grier, Crawford?, and Tucker. I actually see the backcourt as much improved next year.

The problem will be the front court. It will be TP and hopefully the some juco reinforcement with hopeful development of Shayok.

The good news about next year is that there will be fewer than 3 scholarships at the end of the bench that can't contribute.

Absolutely not. I totally agree with you that I'm very concerned with how next year might play out. And I explained this following the comment you quoted:

Yes, we will get some reinforcements in here next year, and it's up to Geno what he wants to do with JP. I haven't given up on him yet, but obviously something is not right with him lately. As I said, I'm very concerned losing DSE and JE, and I don't care how many good recruits you have coming in. It will take some time for them to gel and adjust to Valley competition. Hopefully it will be faster than many of us think it will take, and as usual, I hope they prove us wrong. But it may take some time regardless. Just ask John Calipari how all of his new stud recruits are performing this year!

And regarding last night, we shouldn't have been this much worse losing just one player. The way we played yesterday, we still probably would have lost by 20 even with Egolf in the lineup. Hopefully this was just a bad night on the road against a great team. And just to emphasize that point, the class of the Mountain West Conference, #15 New Mexico went up against a hungry San Diego State team at their place yesterday that was hungry for a win after a couple of recent losses. And SDSU held the #15 team in the country to an even worse 34 points in a 55-34 point win! So if a potential Sweet Sixteen or better team can have a night like this and probably recover, so can we. If we get blown out by 10 or more points at home to ISU red, then I will be greatly concerned. But even in good years, we have followed up some dud road games with wins at home, so I am pretty optimistic that we could pull off a big win Tuesday night.

                          There are several problems going into next season;
                          1) We have no true center that we can count on to rebound, score and defend
                          2) We have too many marginal players on the bench that so far have not shown much which is why we will need another point guard and possibly a combo guard.
Next season will not be better if we cannot fill these roster spots with decent players.
Also I like how hard our seniors have played but the reason why we continue to lose is because they just are average players at best other then DSE on defense, it says a lot about our bench players in that they were beaten out by these players.

I still stand behind a post I made in some thread not to long ago where B4L said he's with me.

OK we need a big to go with the good chance that our back court should be balanced and improved.

Last evening was a game where GF tried to use our limited bench because what I believe he was resting the starters as much as possible for the ISU game. Now on JP. He needs to stop taking the ball to the rim in traffic and take that jump shot! He is not a 5 guys. He has a decent jump shot. Do you guys remember his first shot last evening? It was a swish from the FT line.

I'm also hoping someone gets NW to the weight room and has him doing agility drills this summer. His foot work and strength need to improve big time. I'd have him live in the cafeteria that is closest to the weight room and give him an all you can drink protein shake coupon. I'd also get him a jump rope to help him with his agility.

I hope Will's injury isn't serious. We need him and I'd hate to see his career end like this. But I don't think we get beat by nearly as much if we have Will. But regardless,
we clearly have a long way to go to return to even where we were before the "injury year" of 2010-2011. I know there were fans who disliked where we finished but we were never embarrassed repeatedly like these last 2 seasons, and the league was just as good or better then.
