Among the nation's top scoring D-I players are a whole lot of kids who were overlooked or totally ignored by the big boys and top recruiting gurus...
I am surprised how many of them there are...
I won't mention Corey Hawkins - averaging almost 20 ppg because he did get an Arizona State offer - but he was pretty much overlooked by everyone else...
But - I just read a piece on Mike Muscala - a name most have never heard...
Muscala had only one D-I offer 'til well into his HS senior year - and since that was a provisional D-I Muscala was still leaning on just staying home and playing at D-II Concordia/St. Paul, MN
but Muscala is proving everyone wrong at Bucknell, averaging 20.1 ppg & 11.2 rpg - the only player in the nation averaging at least 19 & 11 rebs.
He is a 6-11 kid out of Roseville, MN - who got virtually zero recruiting interest - he was even willing to walk on at Minnesota but got the cold shoulder, so he accepted an offer from Bucknell..
BTW - note that Bucknell was getting votes for #1 in the mid-major poll and they are currently one of the best teams in the nation.
Other mid-major kids among the naiton's top scorers include
Doug McDermott 24.1 ppg
Gregg Gantt 22.4 ppg
Lamont Jones, Kyle Vinales, Tyler Haws, Isaiah Canaan, Nate Wolters, James Kinney...
In fact 19 of the top 25 scorers in D-I are from Mid-majors...I find that impressive...only one Big Ten player is in the Top 25 and none of the Big 12 or ACC.
