This is a tough week to predict the winner of the weekly awards in the Valley..
each team played two games and a LOT of players had great games but not so many had TWO great games...
Deon Mitchell had a great game scoring 20 pts for UNI but didn't do much in their other game...Anthony James also had a 25 pt game but in a losing effort...
and Carl Hall had a monster game of 17 pts & 14 rebs off the bench to help beat Creighton - so since it was a nationally televised win over a big time rival I think Carl Hall is definitely in the hunt.
Doug McDermott, as always, had a good week going for 31 pts/4 rebs and 25 pts/6 rebs, but these are about his average and that concept used to hurt Hersey all the time...
Jeff Early had two great games for SIU (17 pts/11 reb & 16 pts/9 rebs) but they lost to ISU and are still in last place so I have to think Early gets passed over this week despite the great games.
Likewise Colt Ryan had two good games (25 & 19 pts) but the Aces went 1-1.
Walt Lemon had two great games (16 pts/8 asst & 20 pts/4 reb/4 asst with the long game winner) and because of the drama - he's still in the hunt
BUT I think I will lean towards Jackie Carmichael - his two games of 22 pts & 9 rebs, then 18 pts & 14 rebs when most of his team didn't contribute much else is the most impressive performance.
But I won't be surprised if it's Hall, and hopeful it is Walt Lemon for making the ESPN list!
As for Newcomer - Cleanthony Early did not have two eye-popping games so that leaves the race open..
Instead, I think Cleanthony's teammate Malcolm Armstead gets the Newcomer award with games of 10 pts, 5 reb, 4 asst & 15 pts, 6 rebs, 5 asst in helping the Shox to beat the Jays.
