ESPN3 Question for Bobby Parker

Thanks for the response Booby. I appreciate the insight Bobby. Never knew how that worked. My only point is that if most all of the other MVC schools are getting in on this, it could leave us behind in terms of exposure and recruiting. Remember that ESPN3 is available on Watch ESPN as an app. So tablet and smartphone capability is key for the future.

I appreciate your info and I'm not saying espn is fair.... But I do appreciate your saying it is something BU still evaluates......

But the free app only works if you subscribe to one of these:

ESPN3, however, is available through Internet service providers.

So, at home I can watch ESPN3 on my PC or droid tablet because my ISP (Frontier) is allowed by Frontier, but I cannot use the Watch ESPN app (even when I am on my Frontier based WiFi because I have DirecTv)

So for this game this past Saturday, Missouri St. provided their feed to ESPN3 and there is nothing BU can do about it? Is that how it works?

Again - not trying to complain, just trying to know how things work. I do really like the ability to watch on mobile devices with an app as flash is very limiting.

When I initially streamed ESPN 3 on my computer the feed came from MSU and the quality was relatively poor. So, I logged into my Braves.tv account to watch the Bradley stream with Snell and Klein and the quality was MUCH better than what I found on ESPN 3... That surprised me.

Same here. I watched the rest of the game on Braves.tv, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It is something we will continue to evaluate, but it is often a frustrating arrangement. Trying not to draw viewers away from our own streaming platform is one aspect, but relatively minor in the whole scheme of things. Personally, I have a philosophical issue with the idea that ESPN wants the feed at no cost to them, but covers the ads within the broadcast and replaces within their own ads. Yes, the added viewership is probably worth it, but I really do not like the business arrangement.

Yes, the visiting team can make its television broadcast available to ESPN3 against the home team's wishes.
