  • Wright State coach complaining about schedule

Wright State is where Bobo Drummond & Jacoby Roddy landed...
they are leading the Horizon but their head coach is not happy about the league schedule he's been saddled with..

BTW - Wright State is last in the Horizon in offense - scoring only 62 points per game - but they are yet to be defeated in league play and are in first place..

btw - Bobo has played in 10 games - has yet to hit a shot - has just 2 FT, and 3 asst.

Roddy's been injured (knee) and may end up redshirting this year...

Their schedule is a bit odd- they started Horizon League play with 3 straight home games, and now they have 4 straight road games, followed again by 3 more home games in a row.
I can't recall any MVC schedule in the recent past that had a team play 3 straight games on the road, let alone 4 straight.
In addition, they played the first of their 4 straight road games at Loyola last Friday (Jan. 11), but then they don't play again until tomorrow (Sat., Jan. 19). Then they play a couple more road games Monday (Jan. 21) and Wed. (Jan. 23), and return home to play Saturday, Jan. 26. That is an 8 day layoff in the middle of their conference schedule, followed by 3 more road games in 4 days, and a total of 4 games in an 7 day stretch after not playing at all for 8 days!
I'd complain about that wacky schedule, too.

I would complain too, but I don't know if that will work. It's a rough schedule, but they have to make the best of it I guess. If it's an issue with their arena availability, then they need to work this out in the offseason, and not now as they are dealing with this.

What the coach seemed most upset by was the way the 4 road games were spaced out- an 8 day gap between the first 2 games, then the last 3 games within 4 days of each other. The spacing of that 4 game road schedule could not have been due to issues with their home arena. I think the coach thought that was a bogus excuse from the league, and pointed out that it differs from other "favored" teams schedules.

The horizon conference has always been a bit different with scheduling.

Green Bay started with 2 road games within 2 days then 4 home games, then 4 road games then 2 home then 3 road (including bracket buster) then 2 home to finish.

most of the road cnoference games are 2 days apart. if they play on a Thurs they play the next game on a Sat.

I think the Horizon has tried to be like the Pac-12 in terms of schedule partners and the like. Except, the Pac-12 is an airport league and travel is easily achieved with their budgets. The schedule partner strategy only works for a conference when you have a corresponding budget. The Horizon doesn't have it.

Also, the Pac-12 has a very structured Thurs/Sat-Sun schedule setup for games. Horizon doesn't.
