  • Michael Tucker goes for 25 pts in first game for his new team

Michael Tucker - one of BU's signed recruits for this coming fall.....
just moved back to Georgia and re-enrolled in Covington, GA Alcovy High School..
and he played his first game over the weekend....

Alcovy's team was not very good and was already very turnover prone...and they had a prior record of just 4-10...

Michael Tucker was 10-20 and ended impressively with 25 points, but the rest of his Alcovy teammates were of little help as they committed 24 turnovers and their team lost 73-64

"Tucker returned to the Tigers for the first time this season, attending
Quality Education Academy in Winston Salem, and being listed on their roster
by Maxpreps.com for the 2012 season.

Tucker was an All-Region selection for the Tigers last year, scoring 12.2
points per game with 6.2 rebounds per game while leading Alcovy to a 27-4
record and an appearance in the elite eight.

"He came back from a boarding school," Brown said. "He's a welcome
addition. He's definitely an offensive weapon. He already signed with Bradley
so he's taken care of; we just have to get him acclimated to doing what we do."

Against Rockdale, Tucker finished with 25 points and was 10-of-20 shooting.

"He's definitely an offensive weapon," Brown said. "He rebounds well, defends
around the paint area and can handle the basketball and see over the press."
Tucker was the Tigers' only player in double figures as Rockdale applied enough
    pressure to limit their possessions."

Couldn't agree more. Great to hear he can step right into their lineup and take over the game. Here's to hoping the same on the hilltop next year!

He sounds like he can consistently score - but he's not facing the same defenses he'd have faced at QEA...
...we gotta get at least one more shooter - preferably a juco kid ready to step in and hit 40-45% of his three's

Having seen Tucker play I can say he handles the ball exceptionally well for a player his size. His weakness seems to be a tendancy to get out of control at times and to be a streaky shooter. I'm not sure he is the "knock down" shooter that we need. I think he will be a decent contributor from sophomore year on. He has the potential to be an Andrew Warren-type player... except bigger.

Step in right away? I'd be shocked and considerably happy if that is the case. Not to many Freshman can step in at this level and consistently contribute. It has nothing to do with skill but getting adjusted to the speed, strength, non stop action and most important the ability to play DEFENSE!

Just saw this blurb on Tucker:

                BRAVES FIND ANOTHER BROWN

Bradley snuck in and landed a steal in former Dunwoody player Taylor Brown a couple years back. Brown went to Bevill State in Alabama before moving onto the Midwest school. He averaged 14.8 points a game as a senior in the Missouri Valley Conference. Not a bad showing.

The Braves may have snuck another sleeper out of the Peach State in Mike Tucker. The former Alcovy player is now at Quality Education in North Carolina and he was one of the few bright spots for the school at the Hoops in Overdrive.

Built like a college player, the 6-foot-6 wing showed that he likes physical play. Tucker can shoot it well from the mid-level and looks to be a guy that wants to be effective on the perimeter, too. Players like Tucker are interesting ones to watch. Late-blooming players with physical tools make for good stories in college. That??™s what Brown was. Welcome to part 2 Bradley basketball.

Tucker helped Alcovy to a 60-51 win over previously unbeaten (in region play) Luella in Georgia 6A-Region 2 action..

don't have it -- still digging
..but as sure as the sun rises - if I had posted it - someone named "alcovyman" would have registered and started spamming --

There are questions about Michael Tucker's eligibility to play for his high school in Georgia...
he may be ineligible - ruling apparently to come...

"...Alcovy may or may not have the services of Division I Bradley University committed Michael Tucker.

Tucker... started this season at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He played his first game back with Alcovy against Rockdale on Jan. 8 after he was deemed
eligible by the Georgia High School Association since he returned to his home school after going to a boarding school.

However, since then there have been some questions as to whether the Quality
Academy is a boarding school and Tucker hasn’t played for the Tigers lately.

“He was declared eligible but they had questions about something in the paperwork,” Brown said.
“If he is (eligible), he’s a huge difference maker – he’s a spectacular ball player – if not, as long
as we get it squared away by February playoff time, we’ll be OK. We’d love for that situation to be played out.”

The latest Atlanta area poll came out - and Tucker's Alcovy isn't even ranked among the top 25 in just the Atlanta area...
...and in the statewide rankings - they are #167

Bradley is still linked to a couple of the best UNSIGNED KIDS...Thomas Hamilton, AJ Riley, Gavin Schilling.....
but by now we're probably talking a lot of borderline D-I guys or issues with qualifying among the guys on this list...

I think the future of BU hoops would be a little brighter with news of possibly getting a big for next season. As it stands, we are in big trouble without another big who can come in and contend for a starting spot.

Agreed. Again we appear to be "guard heavy" and the prospect of either SS or NW contributing significantly next year appear to be bleak.
