Mississippi State gets the nod for tonight's UGLY game...

They lose to Vandy 72-31 - they had only 7 FG's and were 2-19 from the arc

Here's some irony - Molinari's WIU squad has that many points right now before halftime!!!!

    Honorable Mention:
TCU scores only 9 first half points and loses to Kansas 74-48
Syracuse scores only 46 & loses to Georgetown

two kinda ugly games last night..

Pitt keeps surging and holds USF to just 44 pts.... 64-44
USF is just 1-14 in the Big East ...they are not a good team

NIU scores just 41 pts on 23.8% shooting plus 19 turnovers, and loses to a rather weak EMU team 53-41

In what may have been the ugly game of the season, Manhattan shoots 25.5%, but it was good enough to beat Fairfield tonight 34-31. Fairfield shot just 26.7% for the game, and had more turnovers than field goals. Both teams shot just 50% from the line, although Fairfield only had 2 free throw attempts. The two teams obliterated the previous record for fewest combined points in a MAAC conference game, as the previous fewest was 82.

That's the same team that NIU scored just 5 first half points against earlier in the season. That is one ugly matchup for NIU!

Wow! We've seen some brutal games this year, but this one may take the cake! That was awful!

That's pretty bad. This year's Penn State team may be the worst BCS team in many years. And yet.......

How in the HECK did they beat Michigan the other night?!!

2nd half starting much the same - and Minnesota is NOT trying to pour it on - -they started a five seniors - including guys like Welch & Ingraam who never start and barely play much - and left those guys in for the first 8 minutes without even making a sub

BTW -- Minnesota's Rodney Williams has a couple dunks that will surely make the ESPN recaps tonight
YouTube already has plenty of his dunks...

NIU now loses their Athletic Director who was hailed as highly successful because of his efforts to get NIU Football to a national prominence..
has nobody noticed how bad their basketball program is..

Now the NIU AD jumps to a different school - kind of a mildly upwards move - but definitely more $$.

Compher replaces Terry Holland as AD at ECU - Holland's salary was said to be in excess of $324,000 - but ECU is reportedly paying Compher $415,000 - a nice pay raise from the reported $284,000 NIU was paying him.
Jan. 11, 2007 GREENVILLE, N.C. - Terry Holland, athletics director at East Carolina University, has agreed to a two-year extension of his contract, which now runs

Northwestern fell further into the Big Ten cellar - almost overtaking the bottom-dweller by losing at home on Senior Night to Penn State...66-59

...I sure hope GF has Nate Taphorn's phone number........

Penn State had lost 15 of their last 16 games, and Northwestern had lost six in a row - so something had to give...
but now it's pretty sure Northwestern is gonna finish 11th as it's gonna be prtty tough for them to win another game.

The main headlines in Chicago, though, have little to do with the game or the loss...
                      "Carmody must go.."
                      "Time top part ways.."
                      "final straw for Carmody.."
"the team has set new lows for the Carmody era .."
                      "student attendance is dismal.."

PS - there's really no other Big Ten coach that's likely anywhere near the hot seat as all the rest of the bottom half have new coaches or they are not at risk for firing..
but same for the MVC - the five teams in the bottom half all have new coaches except Drake..

BTW - speaking of ugly games...
Last night Wisconsin fell to sole possession of 5th in the Big Ten by losing to MSU 59-43...but they had only 29 points with just 6:52 left and just 33 points with JUST 3 minutes left when Izzo was pulling starters.

Their paltry 43 points belies how bad they played as they had only 18 in the 1st half & they are ordinarily a GOOD 3-pt shooting team but shot 17%

Michigan State was up 23 with 3 min left and began pulling their starters BUT...
all five Wisconsin starters played right to the end in order to close the gap to 15 points with a barrage of several 3-pointers by starters shooting aginast the likes of Michigan State's deepest subs & walk-ons...
Matt Costello, Alex Gauna, Russell Byrd, Emmett Dacey, Keenan Wetzel, and even Trevor Bohnhoff and Bella Sibedwo!!!!!!!

but...now the Badgers fans are bailing!!

A full 1/4 (25%) of their ticket sales NEVER show up or walk thru the turnstyles...

ugly game developing tonight on Comcast...
                          Eastern Michigan at NIU...

EMU has Kerrington Ward and assistant coach & ex-BU Brave Jerome Robinson - and NIU has Jordan Threloff ...
and so far 12 minutes into the game it is just 6-5 with NIU making the 1st basket then not making another in almost 12 minutes.
EMU's only two baskets are by Karrington Ward
..overall combined (both teams) shooting thus far is 3-28!!

perhaps mercifully, Comcast switched away from this game and now has motorcycle racing - but it's nearing the end of the 1st half,
and the current score is 9-7 with about 4 min to go in 1st half ...with combined shooting just 5-38 -- great nite for rebounders....

update - a "flurry of FTs" and the score is now 14-14 with a minute left, but the FG shooting is still just 7-47 - half the total of points thus far have been FTs
