I can safely announce that no matter what happens - I think we are off this list this year...
BUT..who is gonna be the first head coach fired in 2013????
Here are a couple names to consider as possible - based on some stuff I have seen...(not counting Billy Gillispie)
-Maybe Anthony Grant at Alabama - ...with the success and standards they have set in their FB program - and with the MONEY they have available - they want a winner and expect a winner in basketball...he won't likely get canned now or soon, but the next 2 months are critical
That said - they have lost 6 of their last eight including embarrassing losses to Mercer & Tulane and they just got humiliated by Mizzou & VCU.
Head coach Anthony Grant was already on the hot seat after a mediocre year last year - losing 9 of their last 17 --
Now - the talk is heating up ...and the Alabama job and a potential to offer $2.5 million might just be enough to pry Gregg Marshall loose...other options might be Memphis' Josh Pastner, Murray State's Steve Prohm (an Alabama alum), or Shaka Smart.....
-Staying in the SEC - Tony Barbee of Auburn has been sub-.500 every year there...and once they start playing the big boys like Florida, Kentucky, etc.....they're gonna be well below .500 this year too.
-A couple Pac-12 guys have been mentioned since last year - Ben Howland at UCLA - but with the eligibility of Muhammad UCLA finds themselves at the top of the Pac-12 - so he's probably off the hook this year, Kevin O'Neill at USC (6-10), & Herb Sendek at Arizona State - underproduces every year despite good talent...and may also get a reprieve this year but he has to finish out the conference season strong.
-Wake Forest's Jeff Bzdelik - not just losing but players departing..
-Bill Carmody's name keeps popping up at Northwestern - they are headed for another bottom of the Big Ten season...
-In the Valley - Drake's Mark Phelps, I think Lusk is secure for a couple years...
-In the Horizon - ? Rob Jeter - the darling of midmajor coaches just a couple years ago can't beat anyone now! (4-12, 0-2)
-This year in the Summit - Mo is gonna state his case for Coach of the Year
