I tend to use all sources of info and evidence... then decide for myself what seem to be the reasonable explanation...
....maybe even doing a little digging and reading myself, and I generally won't swallow something hook, line, and sinker just because someone said so in the newspaper or their web page.

So - taking into account that several key players are leaving the team all at once - I think there's more to this than just a simple homesick argument.

North Carolina investigation centers on QEA...
A Winston-Salem charter school has become an unlikely basketball powerhouse in recent years, winning three national high school championships and sending more than a dozen former players on to Division 1 colleges. But the success of Quality Education Academy's boys basketball team rests on a strategy prohibited at most public schools—recruiting top players throughout the nation and world. It also offers a window into the N.C. Department of Public Instruction's struggles to hold charter schools accountable as the schools become a larger piece of the state's public education system. An N.C. Policy Watch investigation found two-thirds of the players on Quality Education Academy's basketball rosters from 2008 to present came from other states and nations to attend the K-12 school. Their educations were subsidized by taxpayers who sent $13.2 million in state, federal and local funding to the school for the same time period, according to state education estimates and budgets provided by the school.

the big issue is that QEA is a STATE supported "charter school" and yet uses their funds to recruit, house, and educate multiple out-of-state basketball players...
and that QEA has come under fire for being a "basketball factory"...and violating the policies that require "charter schools" to accept North Carolina students!

numerous other violations appear to be happening at QEA and they may be in some trouble...
and this may have something to do with those players leaving QEA (including Tucker)

"... findings in the N.C. Policy Watch investigation were:

Out-of-state players live in a residential house owned and across the
street from the personal home of Johnson, who initially denied knowing where
      players attending his school lived
The school’s basketball coach, Pitts, was previously listed on DPI records as guardian to several players, though North Carolina laws require
students to live with their parents or a court-recognized guardian to attend
      a public school.
The small school’s website lists employing five teachers for it high
school of less than 100 students, but had four coaches for the basketball
      team earlier this year
QEA has no varsity girl’s sports teams, despite federal Title IX rules
that require schools to pay equal attention to sports for both genders. The
school does have co-ed club teams for volleyball, soccer and track, but no
      varsity sports for girls.
The school belonged to a league for Christian athletes, the National
Christian Sports Athletic Association, and won national championships in
      2009, 2010 and 2011."

This is probably ridiculous but is there any way by transferring he could gain an advantage in the admissions process? I know for a junior college when you transfer you GPA transfers and your credits remain the same so if you struggle a year at one juco you can transfer, keep your same credits, and do well in your new school to bump that GPA up.

anyway - since we have a signed LOI - Michael has really only four options - 1-BU, 2-prep/juco, 3-go elsewhere but pay his own way, or 4-ask out of the LOI
looks like he isn't choosing door #1 and is selecting #2 instead

At this point, I don't think that he still had all of those choices.

I'm with you on this. Looks to me he probably only has 1 of those 4 choices.

we were told that he was ok academically - and we still have April & May of this current academic term - and the kid is already back out on the AAU circuit playing for better offers...
...plus he has all summer as well - I think he could have chosen any of the four options but changed his mind & wasn't coming to BU no matter what - the facts speak for themselves...
I am GLAD Geno saw it coming & got verbals from other players to fill the gap...
and I suspect he made his mind up months ago...and our pursuing of so many similar players - Delaney, Swopshire, etc.....kinda fits right in there, too

some of the facts now being revealed by this non-profit watchdog group in North Carolina are showing some serious issues with QEA - the prep school that both Michael Tucker & Anthony Fields went to...for possibly misusing state funs to run their basketball program of out-of-state players....

This author has now confirmed that some obscure group named "Seed in the Soil"..
has paid tens of thousands of dollars of the basketball players' tuition -- which may be a CLEAR violation of the players' amateurism...

"Seed in the Soil" is also being investigated for claiming to be a non-profit organization while not reporting properly to the IRS and thus having their tax-exempt status revoked in 2011....one of their founders just also happens to be the founder and CEO of QEA...hmm...

Moreso - Anthony Fields actually was given almost $5,000 in payments from "Seed in the Soil" for purportedly staying on after his basketball career there was done and doing "occasional work in QEA’s kitchen or office" ..
obviously also a red flag of impropriety...
A Winston-Salem charter school funded by North Carolina taxpayers says tuition for its global roster of students was paid by a non-profit group that links back to the school. The disclosure made in public records recently released by the school comes as the state education department has yet to answer the larger question about whether […]
