It's just an eventuality, next year or the following.. Irrespective of CU's departure date, Elgin better be on the phone talking to 2 or 3 schools now. Get them in by Fall 2013 rather than waiting for the departure by Creighton and eventually WSU.

don't expect agreement - but 1st - I simply refer to my post from February 2013 that pretty much confirms Reed was the leader among all the AD's in the formation of the new Big East:
...it was Georgetown who led the seven Big East schools to form a new conference, and it was LEE REED who made the first announcement of the changes back in December 2012..
he was the ONLY Athletic Director present at the initial news conference announcing the formation of the new conference.
When the final decision was agreed among the "Catholic Seven" - it was from Reed's own office that the release was sent to media outlets.
The media in every other market besides Washington, DC - ran with Reed's comments as tho he was official spokesperson..
It was Reed who was the driving force all the way until the new schools named a Commissioner in June 2013. The other schools who were courted such as Louisville, Creighton, etc...all deferred to Reed when the press asked for statements...
If you can name 29 other people more important to and more instrumental in the new league, then be my guest...I actually cannot think of even one such person.
BTW - even though it was all done behind closed doors - it was rumored that Bradley did present BU as a potential new member for the new Big East.Comment

Okay, great! I am a fan of Jim Les too. He was a great player, and an okay coach. He loved Bradley. He was nice the couple times I met him.
2 - Bradley was interested in joining the new Big East.
Yes, as were almost all other midwestern and eastern private, basketball-focused schools.
3 - The Georgetown AD is a big shot in the NBE.
Um, not sure why you can say that. I've read plenty and have yet to hear that he has any special pull.
Judging by your comments, I would infer that you're suggesting that if Bradley still had Jim Les, we would be in the new Big East. As I said, I don't like to put words in other peoples' mouths, so if I'm wrong, and you don't believe that, please correct me. I apologize in advance.
If, however, you are implying that, well, I vociferously disagree with you to the point that I think the logic you're presenting is strained at best, and ludicrous at worst. One AD, even if he is somehow a top dog (which we have nothing but conjecture to suggest) simply lacks that kind of pull. Furthermore, to suggest that he would value a personal friendship to the point that he would risk his career and power on behalf of a coach for whom he is "a fan" is an insult to his legitimacy, integrity, and brain power.
Then again, if I am completely misreading your point, I do apologize.Comment

I think I made my main point about as clear as I could ...
..that Bradley, with several pretty bad years in a row, playing before smaller and smaller crowds, in a very small market BE-wise, moving some games into a 4K arena, and not being a Catholic school -
already had an extremely slim chance of impressing the Big East people enough to get an invite to their new conference...but they did try....
...but the rest of the story - the story that Dave Reynolds reported on - dropped our chances even further.

Final decisions and votes come from the university presidents, but the majority of the work and communication the leads to a major conference realignment like this is not done by the presidents themselves.
Also, our AD has spoken openly to many about Bradley's efforts to reach out to the main players in the new Big East, and the fact that we were rejected summarily.
Btw, Big East officials are already talking about expansion, and naming expansion candidates, and they do not include Bradley.

If only BU's MVC W-L record was as good as JL's fund raising, connections, coaching and recruiting...
BU would now have a perpetually full arena, lots of supporters, lots of D-1 major talent and be part of the Big East, or,
the Catholic 7...
