  • Saint Louis' Keith Carter transferring

One time BU recruit and star PG at Proviso East HS-Keith Carter is leaving St. Louis University after just 1 semester. Maybe it was the change of coaches, maybe he just wasn't as ready to contribute as he thought he was, but he sure didn't play much -
appeared in only 3 games and probably saw that he wasn't going to get much more any time this year ...
so he's leaving in time to enroll somewhere else before 2nd semester - so he can be eligible next year (2012-2013) at mid-season.
No word yet where he's going - but speculation on U of I where they might need some guards down the road with all their guys leaving this year & next...
Some speculation that maybe Porter Moser (at Loyola) would still have his phone number as Porter was probably recruiting him to St. Louis..
    ...potential BU target?

Unfortunately, Bradley does not have a scholarship available to recruit him. Plus, point guard is not a top priority now.

It may be more fortunate than unfortunate. Keith wouldn't fit in well with this team, or any team at this point really. He is a legend, just ask him.

Alec should be real happy. Someone to get him the ball.

Keith Carter says that he will apply to NCAA to get this entire season deemed a redshirt seaosn so he will not lose eligibility (he says his ankle hurts) - and he will also appeal to request immediate eligibility to play next fall.
..Otherwise - he would not be eligible until mid-season - and by leaving the team at Saint Louis & transferring - he would be unable to use the injury to get a redshirt..

I saw Keith Carter on the bench as Valpo beat UW-GB on a buzzer beater Saturday...

Keith Carter kinda missed a really great season at Saint Louis..
They just keep winning & winning - (12 of their last 13) they've won the outright A-10 reguler season title, #1 seed, 24-6, and possibly destined for even better yet...

He transferred to Valpo - and they had a great season too also although unfortunately he missed their great season sitting out due to transfer -
they are 25-7, their league's #1 seed, playing for their league's championship, and 7 of their top 8 players are seniors - so he'll have playing time there for the asking but it is expected that head coach Bryce Drew will be among the hottest commodities and might be a strong candidate to head elsewhere next year.

Valpo really is the world's best example of a school that recruited kids who would have been deemed by many not to have D1 talent---
..and some were under-productive kids who transferred in.....

BUT - they all stayed four or five years, they all developed, many can hit an open shot, and they play well together as a team...and presto - they are a good team and they win.

I find it interesting the way the Horizon league sets up their tournament with the 1 and two seeds getting automatic byes to the semi-finals, and 6 teams needing to win 4 games (in a 9 team league). This definitely puts emphasis on the regular season.

Valpo is a good team (and somewhat of a model), although we should be able to get a little better talent. They have three dead-eye shooters playing the 2, 3, 4 positions, really only one (undersized) big, and a PG (their weakest link, many TO's, no shot). Their 2 G is more of a combo, however (much like Lemon). Roger Powell has helped bring in a very good Freshman class next year for that league, so while they'll likely take a step back, it shouldn't be for long.

Valpo's Keith Carter - who had transferred mid-year from Saint Louis after playing sparingly his freshman season there in 2013-14.....
requested another year to make up for the season he had to sit out when transferring to Valparaiso.
NCAA denied his request so his college career would appear to be over
