  • Will Egolf resumes practicing today

But a decision has not yet been made about resuming play, and he won't travel Wednesday to Indiana State

but as noted elsewhere - I see this as a good sign that he may be back before the end of the month

I think he should be playing again by the SIU game, I also believe the University should find him some extra details to do for the bad publicity he has given them, the court system will take care of the rest as far as fines and community service, I also hope he has seen a drug counsellor by now as they need to find out why and for how long this problem has been going on.

While I agree with most of this post, I believe he should serve at least the 10% game suspension, which in my mind would be 4 games. I would not count the game at SIU since he was still in jail at that point. Just my own personal belief that he should miss 5 games and be eligible to play against Missouri State.

Can you elaborate? I believe that we need to send a message to kids and the other student athletes that there are consequences for each action you take and that you should think them through. I just want to understand the 10% rule of yours. If so he should sit out 3 games max. 10% of 30 = 3! If there is a rule in place I'm fine with that but if not I'll be happy with what the powers that be hand out. 5 just seems so arbitrary and I would count the SIU game!

It's not my rule....I'm pretty sure there's a standard 10% rule in place at Bradley. If not, someone please correct me.

I was also under the impresson there are 31 games on the schedule, which would make the minimum suspension 3.1 games! He would have to be suspended 4 games in order to reach that minimum suspension.

Actually, if you want to get technical about it, there are at least 32 games on the schedule since every team in the conference participates in the conference tournament.

It is my personal belief the game at SIU should not count, because he could not have played in that game anyways.....being stuck in jail and all.

I'm not sure why 5 games seems so arbitrary.

I think it should depend on "the rest of the story" which possibly only Will's family and the Bradley administration knows right now. If there is a more ominous reason he was buying Vicodin on New Year's eve, the suspension should be longer. If it's not so sinister, I'd count the 2 he's missed, plus 2 more. In this case, I believe our admins will make the right decision.

I will be fine with whatever BU decides.

If a night in jail and everyone in Peoria knowing you messed up didn't get through, I don't think a suspension would, regardless of the length.

I see your point. I just don't personally believe any games missed while spent in jail should count towards a suspension of any kind. Seems like an easy way out to me. How was he supposed to play in that game?

Kind of like the article that came out saying he wasn't making the trip to Carbondale. Really? Were they really going to postpone the game until he got out of jail?

By your calculations its either 3 or 4 games. 3.2 in most instances is rounded to 3. 5 still seems arbitrary and I'm not going to get into what is right because we do not have all the facts. I'm sure whatever punishment is put upon him it will be a little harsher then almost every program out there. I've yet to see our President hand out any judgement that has been perceived lenient. She is quite the conservative custodian as well as the community.

If it's 3.2, then a 3-game suspension does not reach the minimum suspension. The 5 is because I believe it should be a 4-game suspension and the SIU game should not count, therefore I believe he should miss 5 games. I'm still failing to see why that's so arbitrary after I've explained it more than once now.

To me, a 4-game suspension (counting the game played while he was in jail) doesn't seem too terribly harsh for a felony drug charge. That may be what happens, but I don't think that's too much different than how most schools in the country would probably handle this situation.

the "exempt" in-season tournament by NCAA rules counts as one game not four

Besides, isn't his knee bothering him? Hopefully today's individual workout was used to determine just how bad it is before allowing him to play again, suspension or not.

Even in a suspension situation? Interesting.

The NCAA way of counting games (tournaments count only as 1 game) applies only to making sure teams don't exceed the maximum number of allowable games.
As I said in another thread- I think the NCAA definition of "games" scheduled is not relevant here. I believe the university will count the games their own way, and probably count each of the games of the tournament separately.
