  • New NCAA Transfer Rule would effectively make mid-majors the farm system for the BCS

they are proposing that virtually any player at any school could transfer at any time without penalty &
be immediately eligible, as long as they had a C+ average!
Kids like Doug McDermott, CJ McCollum, Stephen Curry, Jimmer Fredette, Isaiah Canaan, Damian Lillard - would be getting recruiting calls day & night from the big boys...

As proof - Curry's younger brother sure did - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4026095

There should be a clause that says a school could only take so many transfers per academic year. Or a coach can only officially contact so many potential transfers in a given year. Otherwise, what's to stop a new coach at a BCS school from recruiting a mid-major's all-conference team for his own team the next season?

Yeah, this is going to be a biiiiiig problem.

The NCAA should probably go halfway on this and allow transfers for players who just lost their coach, or something like that. They can't allow free reign. Massive corruption is inevitable.

Its inevitable...$$$$ wins out in the revenue sports. BU is in a race against time to improve its athletic and academic product, brand recognition, and academic facilities. Have trust in our Glass Cross.

The MVC will be stuck in the mud of the mid mid...farther and farther away from the BCS schools. A bunch of regional schools without much in common besides the region it is in... Academics?..NO...(Kiplingers..Creighton & BU..not sure if Drake is in 2013)...Enrollment Size?..NO...All public/private?...imbalance soon...Regional area with like sized cities? Yes..... Financial Endowment? Not really.. Football? Nope....

It can go both ways guys. As Steve said BU is in a race to improve our overall product and in doing so we can play this game as well. There's not really much stopping kids today from transferring. Just look at the numbers. We need to prepare our program to take advantage of these rules instead of fighting them. Who says we can't go after a good player from a BCS school that is sitting on the bench and plays sparingly? I'd prefer that there would be a few rules placed on immediate playing, for transfers, such as change of coach, program is given NCAA sanctions and a few more.

lesser players at the BCS schools who get three years in then realize they aren't playing could go mid-major and seek more playing time...
but I think the main purpose of this ruling is so the big conference schools can poach the best players no matter where they are...

T- I agree but these rules can sometimes back fire. The better teams already have the best talent so why would a mid-major stud head to one of those teams to potentially sit on the bench and or not be showcased? Chances are if he's comfortable with the program the middle of the road BCS could not touch him. Yes this would present its own challenges but if you create the right environment your program could potentially benefit. The transfers are already happening and I'm sure a ton of them are being done by illegal back channels. This rule will just put it all out in the open.
