The issue of pain at this level is a problem and the manner in which it is addressed. Here's a story that is not related to our issue but it gives you an idea how these drugs if not monitored correctly can have an adverse effect on even the healthiest of young athletes.
WE's story is not new a new story but it is one that can help us bring to light the dangers of pharmaceutical drugs. I'm in the school of thought that the discussion of all drugs needs to happen at a young age with very accurate information of their benefits and of their dangers. I would suspect that WE's issue is one of 100s throughout college sports. Perhaps there should be a program (perhaps there is) for all college athletes that go over these issues and if they go through a painful procedure and are prescribed an opiate there should be a professional follow up regarding pain management. After all these young men and women are our responsibility as well.
