  • Game plan?

against a team that has barely a player over 6-5 has there been even one pass yet into the low post?
Pross' only touches are when he grabs a rebound off one of those horrible forced shots from outside.
We are playing our weakest suit all the time -- some please explain this to me?

A masterful play out of the time out at the 1:20 mark. Great call by Geno!

Nothing matters but the W! Next!

I agree somewhat - I'll take the win but we have to work on a few areas of execution...

I thought Shayok & Wells did ok....but Tyshon is our best scorer down low - we got to get him the ball...
against their "small ball" defense TP would have and should have had 20/10 if we just get the ball there
Thank heavens for all their missed dunks, wild 3-pt attempts, and bad passes - they kinda gave us this one but we'll take it

Most definitely! I'm hoping a lot of this being out of sync had to do with the Egolf situation. We'd better be on for the next game though.

These coaches are getting the most out of what they have. I can't imagine there are many Bradley fans who aren't happy with the job Geno has done.

It's pretty fun to play that poorly and still win on the road.

              Game Plan?

t---You are 1000% correct regarding our lack of low post play. We never seem to get the ball inside and rely far too much on perimeter play and missed 3 point shots plus drives to the basket which work sometimes but often result in bad decisions and turnovers.
Why in the world don't we use the post?? We have Egolf, Prosser, Pickett, and Wells at 7'-1". I don't recall ever having seen a pass inside to Wells in the low post. Nothing beats a 2 Ft. shot by a big who goes hard to the basket!! No wonder we can't seem to attract a BIG recruit---What big guy would want to play in this kind of offense?

1 - TP sat for about 75% of the game w/ foul trouble. Hard to get shots from the bench.

2 - We don't have a lot of great passers on the team, and SIU was really packing in the lane. That's not a great mix for pounding it down low.

3 - We still got the W. Seems to me the game plan was adequate.

Egolf is suspended, Pickett had foul trouble, Wells hasn't played much this year and Prosser hasn't always had the best hands on the team. I agree that we need to get the ball to the post more, but I don't think the problem is as dire as it seems.

Ford got Pickett, I have no doubt that he will be able to get other bigs to come play here.
                  Return to Glory

I think there are two reasons.

                    1. We aren't a very good passing team into the post....

                    2. Since we don't shoot well even though teams play us man...it's a sagging man so it's just not that easy for an entry pass to get there...especially to inexperience guys like Nate and SS..,.TP plays 11 minutes...there were a couple of passes to Pross where he scored in the second half but it was because of a nice cut by Pross not because of a post up.

I think we are going to have to figure out ways to penetrate and dish to the bigs after rotating the ball and driving and by somehow hitting some outside shots.

I don't know how closely any of you were watching last night, but Nate was having a great deal of difficulty establishing position in the post. With regularity, he was being pushed off the block by a much smaller man. As much as he has improved, he has a LONG way to go in getting stronger.

I made a comment similar to that during the chat...there is a reason he's not played much.....I'm sure he will improve but it will take time.

Nate also has the size and long arms that would have blocked a shot underneath by Jeff Early in the second half, but he made the "Danny Granger" mistake of following through with the downward action of his arm after the block, which will always get a whistle in the MVC. Granger used to get 2 quick fouls every game trying to be overly aggressive with blocking attempts. I hope he can learn to just stay straight up.

Down the stretch when we needed to score - Walt took on the task and went one-on-one a few times and his superior skill carried us and we won..
But.... this "game plan" of a lot of one-on-one move failed us last season and is not going to work against the upper level of the Valley who have the same talent and skill or better.
We are still going to have to stick consistently with a game plan of feeding the low post....the best games we have played were when our guys in the paint out-battled and outscored the other guys.

Remember when we played CMU - I know they're not a great team - but we beat them in all aspects...
BUT WE OUTSCORED CMU IN THE PAINT 66-24!!!!
SIU is an even WEAKER team down low - only one true frontcourt player, only one guy over 6-5, and often playing with 5 guards -
...yet they embarrassed us at times down low and we regrettably did NOT outplay them in the paint!!!!
