Scores in the 40's - even the 30's, worse and worse shooting percentages and bad shot selection (as if points are awarded for 'degree of difficulty'),
and more physical play being allowed by refs, and endless fancy dribbling moves that lead to more turnovers...
now the call to clean it up, make changes, shorten the shot clock to 30 seconds...

"Scoring will continue to trend downward, hitting yet another low for
the shot clock era and forcing the NCAA to have serious talks about fixing
the problem. The NCAA can't demand that its coaches play faster
basketball, but it can make bigger efforts to cut down on physical play that
restricts movement, and bring the shot clock down to 30 seconds. I don't
expect those changes to actually go into effect in 2013, but with final
scores in the 50s and 60s becoming all too prevalent, new rules will at
least be up for discussion, rather than existing only in sportswriters' fantasies."

This is the result of poor fundamental basketball being taught at the AAU level. As long as players and coaches are rewarded for fla$hy play thi$ will not change. Money talk$, b@!!$4!t walk$.

I agree with your quote. After watching countless AAU Youtube clips highlighting D1 recruits, I've concluded that the "game" is slanted toward highlighting the athleticism and physical skills of a very small number of players on each team. You see dunks, long 3-point attempts, behind the back passing, fancy dribbling, etc. You don't see blocking out on rebounds, good shooting form, floor balance, or anything that remotely resembles effective Xs and Os. This is basketball in the ME generation. Players immediately draw attention to themselves after a nice play with their screams, dancing, head bobbing and various other gestures that imply: It's all about me.

The better teams are scoring because the coaches are awarding players that play the right way with minutes. If you sit a player that is me first, plays uninspired D and a hot dog you can bet he'll start refraining from those tactics. BU's does not have what I'd call offensive skilled players by a long shot but they are scoring because they are committing to play on both sides of the ball, which leads to easy baskets. I'm not sure what our average is but it has to be in 65+ and without those TOs it would probably be in the 50s. Now if we had a few shooters we'd be scoring in the high 70s. Reducing the shot clock will only artificially help the scoring while diluting the overall product. Maybe they should eliminate the zone before they touch anything else.

Eliminating the zone defenses would just gives referees more things to watch in the games. At one time the NBA had a lot of rules regarding what constitutes a zone defense. I believe it is now legal to play a zone defense in the NBA. Of course, I could be wrong.

There haven't been a lot of games this past week but since Sunday -
              there have been...

-4 games where at least one of the teams scored in the 30's
-12 games where one was in the 40's
-30 games where one was in the 50's
..out of 78 games....more than half the games!!

No doubt there is plenty of problems with the AAU circuit and a lack of coaching, but what about the continuing expansion of D1 watering down the talent pool? In the last 10 years, D1 has expanded from 326 to 347. That's an additional 21 teams with 250+ players that used to be playing the lower levels.
