Will Egolf arrested for drug charge...

Yes, it was Ray Brown who tested positive ....

BTW how many know this...
Ray Brown, after sitting out portions of the next 3 years - he finally played his last year of basketball at Hamline Univ. in Minnesota...

he got his degree and in the process helped Hamline to a 15-11 record averaging 17 ppg & 7.3 rpg

Hamline U. is in the news this week as pretty much their entire team punched out some of their opponents' fans including women and are in trouble

BTW- one last comparison...
Michigan State's Derrick Nix - one of their key players was arrested for DUI and marijuana possession and Michigan State
said he was suspended...but as soon as the basketball season started - they said he would get no suspension...they even made him TEAM CAPTAIN
...relevant???

I am pretty sure the people at Bradley know how to deal with the problem, and are taking care of this properly.

But that has never stopped the self-righteous people at the PJ Star from preaching what they think should be done.

KW wrote an opinion piece. It's what columnists do.

To that point, I didn't find it to be at all self-righteous; rather, I found it be quite pragmatic.

Just curious what you thought was self-righteous about Kirk's article. I don't think Kirk giving his opinion on how BU should handle this is self-righteous. "I'm sure the administration can handle this appropriately" doesn't make for a very good read.

Outstanding! Well done KW! :)

The KW opinion column appears to presume WE has a serious narcotic addiction.... he talks about getting the addiction addressed and even calls the local addiction treatment center and interviews an expert and gives a lengthy piece on how to treat the addiction (de-tox) - with talk of hospitalizing the addict for 30 days at a time....

This is pretty wild, irresponsible talk about a young man who has no addiction and has never been diagnosed with an addiction...
plus he says Will "should not play again for Bradley"...then
..a couple lines later says... "I hope we get to see Egolf play again."

If my son was dabbling with medicinalized heroin that is known to be addictive that he bought from a street dealer, yes, that indicates a problem and I think treatment is a legitimate consideration.

You took that first quote out of context and it reads differently. The full quote is "Until that??™s addressed in a meaningful way [his health], by professionals in the field of drug abuse, Egolf should not play again for Bradley."

Here is the quote that was shortened in its entirety.

"The health of Will Egolf as a human being — regardless of whether that future includes another minute of competitive basketball — is paramount. Until that’s addressed in a meaningful way, by professionals in the field of drug abuse, Egolf should not play again for Bradley. His future is at stake."

So you're quite sure he doesn't have an addiction? He bought Vicodin from a street dealer, was arrested and spent two nights in jail. Would it be safe to say he has a problem, if not an addiction?

I think KW's article is spot on, and hope BU does the right thing by getting Will the help that he needs. Life is more important than basketball.

That wasn't how I read it at all. To me, it seemed that Kirk felt it would be irresponsible to presume that Will doesn't have an addiction, and that the university should go to great lengths to confirm it one way or the other. I'm also curious as to how you know that Will has no addictions. I find your statement to be a pretty wild and irresponsible presumption on your part. Your desire to grind an axe with Kirk knows no bounds.

but not IRRESPONSIBLE TO PRESUME HE DOES HAVE AN ADDICTION??
This is like calling a guy out for beating his wife then saying you really don't know nor have any evidence that he ever beat his wife...

one more note - the State of IL keeps an online database of every person in the state who fills even one prescription for any controlled substance or narcotic -
and only health professionals can access this site - so as to be able to determine if any patient that is being prescribed for isn't secretively getting more meds
from some other place/source, other doctors, ER, etc...
Let me put it this way - if Will even has the tiniest addiction and has filled even one prescription then it would be easy to know that -

There are a lot of options out there as far as treating someone with a drug or alcohol addiction , first of all they need to find out if he really has a problem or if he was not getting these 6 pills to use for the New Years holiday , has he been doing this regularly or was this just a spur of the moment bad idea, only Will knows the answer to this but speculating that just because he purchased them on the street does not automatically mean that he has a big problem , he definitely needs to see a drug Counselor in order to get to the root of the problem and he they have offices for this so I see no need to admit him somewhere for 30 days as if he had that type of problem then everyone he has had contact with lately would have noticed that type of problem.

Will exhibited a behavior that would indicate that someone may have a problem. By my interpretation, this is what lead Kirk to write what he wrote.

As to your second point, obviously, when Will needs a prescription he doesn't always go to the pharmacy. I doubt that Mr. Fletcher contributes his "prescription" updates to the website.

I know you don't like being misquoted T......but you sure did here.

He also said this.."I have no idea whether Egolf is addicted to pain-killers".

It wasn't wild or irresponsible....I'm sure with your experience and all the people you know that you understand how addictions work. I've had numerous situations with family, and employees over the years and there wasn't anything in the article that wasn't true.

By the way...how do you know he doesn't have an addiction?

sure - he has no idea but he sure speculated wildly - or is the two page column about putting addicts into rehab & detox all about someone at ISU??

I don't know - where did I ever say I do know that??
..but there's an awful lot of talk about WE being addicted - considering people do not know and have such little evidence.
- all I am saying is the evidence just isn't there --

Agree with KW.

While it's easy to blame his knee pain and take into account his otherwise clean record and positive character traits that everyone at BU knows, an independent third-party should be involved to make absolutely sure there is not a larger problem with addiction.
