So I was curious as to what controlled substance meant and this is what I found.

The federal government and the states list the various types of drugs that they consider to be "controlled," that is, available (if at all) only through a valid prescription.

Hope this helps clarify that it is not a ridiculous drug such as heroin.

Every other MVC school has these kinds of arrests and they don't even hit the newspaper...and the kids are back in either zero or one game...
I trust our staff will handle this properly but it hurts Bradley - it is disappointing...
I have always been 100% consistent on this issue - it should be punished substantially - my kids' high school docks a kid 1/3 of the season for such an arrest..
then reinstate the kid unless there's been a pattern of same - as is the case at SIU

Pretty much agree with you two!

Also you may want to look at Fletcher Jared Ryan http://www.scribd.com/doc/118582495/...mates-01-01-13. He was arrested at the same time by the same officer for distribution but released. There's more to this story and I'm just going to wait it out until all the facts are in.

That's absolutely not true. I seem to remember a certain senior night game a few years back where Daniel Ruffin was suspended for his alleged domestic battery charge that was later dropped. They didn't even have all the facts but Les suspended him indefinitely until the facts emerged. He was suspended for the nationally televised SIU game at Carver that we lost most likely because he wasn't playing. So to say that Les was soft with discipline is a complete fallacy.

May Geno actually suspends more players for more issues, and/or we just happen to have some bad luck with a few bad apples. Every team no matter how clean they are will run into streaks of bad luck when it comes to player behavior from time to time. It's how the coaches handle the discipline that shapes their reputation.

I don't think the media is calling for Geno's firing. Yes, he's only in his second season, but the absolute horrid treatment of the previous coach in the media is light years away from how Geno will probably treated. And that has nothing to do with either coaches win/loss record.

There is also another booking of another inmate (Jared Ryan Fletcher, age 34) from the same officer, on the same police report number, and at about the same time on a charge of Distribution of a Controlled Substance.

Does anyone know anything about this Fletcher guy?. By the way, I do not see that he was released either.

Police reports are just a description of what happened by all parites involved. That doesn't mean they aren't fudged by these parties, and that doesn't mean that what is on police report actually happened. That's what the courts are for. So I have no issue if the paper reported the actual details in the police report, but they have no business calling the details facts until it goes to court or is settled out of court. I think back in earlier times, the news media would show a lot more discretions as to what is reported as "facts".

I'm sorry, I have an issue with the media that goes far beyond the PJS and Bradley athletics. I have no trust what is reported in newspapers these days, be it the PJS, the Chicago Tribune, or whatever papers are published in Maine or Vermont, or wherever. Too many faulty facts, and on the rare occasions they admit a mistake they come up with excuses such as "the information we were given was faulty"!

If there are still people that actually believe everything they read in the newspaper, well all I can say is that not enough people actually take the time to verify the facts.

I have no inside knowledge on this case, but served on grand jury last year and indicted numerous controlled substance cases that I somewhat remember. They can range from the severe (like possessing thousands of oxycontin for resale) to the very minor (like having a few unprescribed vicoden on you at a party). Both will generally get you arrested and processed on felony charges in the same manner.

That was the really shocking part to me of how our felony legal system works, is that harmless kids popping a pain pill or ADHD med (which happens in huge numbers on college campuses, even Bradley) get painted with the same brush in public as serious drug dealers until they make it through the court system and the facts come out.

Again, no knowledge of this situation, but I'm hopeful it's a case of a college kid simply having unprescribed pain meds (which he may have had a valid prescription for recently with his broken nose) and nothing more serious. If that's the case, a slap on the wrist is fine by me given Will's track record at Bradley.

It was a true fact that those events were in the police report. I'll just say there was a reason other than academics that a certain BU player wasn't traveling with the team before finally transferring.

I hope that's all it is, and if that's the case, I have more sympathy since addiction to pain killers usually starts off with prescription pain pills and is sometimes hard for even the most disciplined people to ween their way off of. And I agree that should not even be mentiioned in the same sentence as a person who deals drugs, the type of person who should be considered for at the very least life imprisonment. Hopefully the facts will come out sooner than later, but it looks like there is still a lot of sorting out to go through. The fact that he is sitting in jail another night is not encouraging right now.

Okay, I'm not disputing what is in a police report. But that's why a judge needs to interpret what actually happened before they are recorded as fact.

I'm not sure where you are going with this certain BU player, and how it ties into what happened last night with WE.
