one of the other Summit League schools has a little overblown controversy...
apparently the University of North Dakota feels their play-by-play announcer's use of the phrase "choke" to describe how the team played - is too violent and they have taken him off his duties and suspended him!!

Congrats tonight to Coach Mo and W. Illinois for a great come from behind victory over the hapless UMKC. Down 39-21 at the half, WIU outscores UMKC 32-11 (!) in the second half for a 53-50 victory. Though they struggled against a 7 win team at home, I think UMKC demonstrated in the second half why they only have 7 wins this year!
Unfortunately WIU cannot win the Summit conference outright as S. Dakota St. won at Nebraska-Omaha 100-82 tonight. They move to 13-3 in the Summit, while WIU moves to 12-3 with one game remaining Saturday night at home against an almost as bad S. Dakota team. WIU can finish at 13-3, but loses the tiebreaker based on the season sweep by SDSU. So SDSU gets the #1 seed in the Summit tourney while WIU gets the #2 seed if they win. No difference regarding tournament seeding, but who would get the automatic NIT bid from the conference? SDSU based on seeding? And if they were to win the conference tourney, would WIU still get a serious look from the NIT committee? I'd hate to see WIU have to settle for another CIT tourney considering the great year they have had!

to the post a few back.. North Dakota is not in the summit leauge..
As far as the NIT autobid the NIT goes by conference tournament seeding tiebreakers to award the autobid... The Summit, since they play a balanced conference schedule would consider WIU and SDSU "CO-CHAMPIONS"
anyone who has seen WIU play would say without doubt they are an NIT caliber team... but like the big dance, a committe picks them.. and maybe an 18-14 Rutgers team is more appealing to that committe than a 23-8 wiu team, sad but thats the reality of it.. it goes to the hands of a committee with an agenda.

Classic Mo-ball - I guess the folks in Macomb don't mind the low scores so much - they've been drawing well over twice what the previous coach was drawing and some of their crowds border on 600% of their old crowds.
Michael Ochereobia - Western's backup center had a great game...
He got the start last night, his first ever, and went 5-5 and had 14 pts
They now have 20 wins - the most they have ever won in Division I - with his next victory - Mo will have their all time D-I record!!

Maybe a blessing in disguise as WIU would play NDSU who they have beat twice before Oakland who has been playing pretty well lately

Molinari discusses his recruiting philosophy..
"Western Illinois coach Jim Molinari admits that when he recruits, he doesn't recruit players with strong ability, but strong character."
plus Coach Mo's comments on whther injured Terell Parks would play would be deemed downright lying by some...
"No official word on Parks' status has been released and Molinari is playing his cards close to the vest.
"I don't know what's going to happen with Terell, it's too early for that," Molinari said. "I don't want us to be shocked if he doesn't play, and getting off to a better start would help that."

One of Mo's incoming recruits, Garrett Covington, is having quite a year...they don't get much press down there but Covington can play..
One of his other incoming kids - Jabari Sandifer - is likewise leading his team thru the playoffs..

Congrats to Coach Mo and his Leathernecks. I've always said and told my kids,"Good things happen to good people." and it sure has for Mo. He has done a remarkable job in a tough place to recruit. Over 5,000 people in Western Hall last night was unheard of for years. Hope WIU takes care of Mo so he stays there. Sounds like he has a couple real good recruits coming in to keep this good thing rolling.
