  • Creighton and Evansville to leave the MVC

Dave Reynolds is now reporting that Creighton and Evansville are leaving the MVC. CU to join the new Catholic conference. Evansville reportedly moving to the Horizon, though now DR says the UE AD is denying this.

Another report has DePaul expressing interest in joining the MVC!

I hope the Valley stays but if I had to guess it will look much different .Would love for DePaul to come in but believe they would be interested in something higher rated than the Valley. Hope not but we will see. Wouldn't miss Evansville one bit.Would trade Creighton & Evansville for St Louis and Depaul in a heartbeat. just wishful thinking on my part.

Figured all along that Creighton would leave to go with Catholic schools as it definitely means more money, Evansville also makes sense as there was talk about them dropping out of D-1 but this might be their final solution as to being able to compete in a lower level conference.

Also would hope that the Valley would not just take 2 schools without the proper fit and if they do add new members make sure they sign long term contracts so they are not dealing with this again sooner then later.

Can't see DePaul leaving the C7. Perhaps they want the new conference to look different and are using the MVC for leverage. I'm sure G'town and Villanova want to keep the conference east coast dominant. If I'm CU I'd split but also I'd would try and build a two division conference with 16 teams to keep the traveling issue within check.

I think the dream scenario, admittedly one that has about zero chance of happening, is getting SLU, Butler, DePaul, and Marquette to join the Valley. I would be happy with just getting SLU and Butler, two good programs in good size markets.

I'd love SLU and Depaul to join. That would be a step up as far as population areas. I don't think that will happen though. I kind of hope it is true with Evansville leaving. They aren't terrible, but no great loss.

Forget about SLU. They aren't going to go down a notch from the A10. If the Catholics are adding Creighton, they're adding fellow Jesuit SLU. DePaul isn't going down either.

Realignment has now trickled down to the MVC. Looking forward to Glasser, Cross, the Trustees, and Elgin's gameplan. We don't go downward, only up!

Only 2 privates, potentially, in the MVC. I'm sure Wichita State is trying to figure out were they fit in, as the sole STRENGTH in the conference. Does the MVC in this form fit BU's profile?

                Can't wait for the fun...

I think this is great. I currently have 5 windows open just to different message boards just trying to keep updated. Do I think it could potentially hurt the MVC? Sure I do but it is sure fun to watch the landscape being shook up like never before.

Have a hard time seeing any scenario where Marquette and DePaul are not with the Catholic 7/Big East Remnant.

Don't see Butler leaving the A-10 unless it is for a clear upgrade, and I don't think they see the Valley that way. Would be great if it happened, but seems to me that ship sailed when they left the Horizon.

If Creighton and Evansville go, the Valley will miss CU a lot. Evansville probably not so much.

Wow! The dominoes are falling by the minute! Won't miss Evansville, but Creighton will be hard to swallow initially.

We should have gone after Butler aggressively about five years ago. We had a series going with them at that time (or just before then) anyway. We even had an NIT game against them about 12 years ago. This would make too much sense if the A-10 falls apart.

If BU gets asked, would we join a watered-down A-10? I think we are a better fit for the Valley, but Cross and Glasser love the east coast.

This whole situation is very liquid right now. The effect of this will be felt for the next few years. So far the C7 have done what I would have done. I'd probably try to go a bit further and create a sister conference out west with some sort of affiliation. There are 7 Catholic schools plus 3 other private schools in the WCC.

A basketball dominant conference that stretches the country would be very attractive for a TV contract. They could easily pull off a 30 team 3 division conference. I would have to believe the potential revenue would be tremendous as well as the power it could hold. Right now the major conferences hold the power. If these schools united you would have to believe they can create the power base and stability for their institutions. Money, power and stability is what this is about. In this scenario we would have to hope that CU would be one of our sponsors in joining this mega-conference affiliation.

Depends how many other midwestern teams get invited too.

Actually, would a Bradley/Butler travel partnership on the western edge of the A-10 interest people? I'm not sure, actually.
