    The NCAA supplanted the AAU as the most powerful body in amateur sports but this column details the history and it almost by chance that NCAA stepped in to regulate problems and abuses at a time that Congress was going to appoint a government agency.
    Bradley is mentioned in regards to some of the early 1950's issues/scandals that gave rise to the NCAA issuing severe penalties and thus causing Congress to step aside and let NCAA take over the authority & clean up the messes...
    then by the 1960's TV contracts and ticket sales made NCAA immensely rich and powerful...
