Alwan made a 3 pointer against Tennessee Martin. Put him in coach.

It must be working OK now for this post to appear, but I can't explain what happened to your other attempts.
Thank you for the reply. I appreciate you looking into it! They are working OK now.

I agree with your reasoning here. When you're winning, don't change the formula. But... I do think there's something to be said about working in a shooter. Even if it's off the bench for 5 or 8 minutes a game, then you give him a chance to prove that he deserves that time. Not to force it and try to be a star. But to play solid and hit open 3's. I'm sure Geno has a master plan, he's doing a great job with the team. Maybe he doesn't feel comfortable playing a kid who didn't play high school ball for his last two years? Since I know his game outside of the D1 stage, I'm sure there are certain things the coaches are working on that are more related to the system than his scoring ability. But I still want to see some 3's!

BU stats from 3 point land.. Walt is 4 of 18. Simms-Edwards is 4 of 22. Jake is 6 of 18 (and as I said before, is the best shooter we have playing). Crawford is 5 of 24. Will is 8 of 20 (and he's playing great on the inside too).

I've hooped with Gavin. I'm not talking about a kid who gets a lucky shot off that means nothing to the game. I've seen him hit deep game winners. Consistently run the court against D1 athletes and pro ballers at gyms in Chicago. That's why he walked on without a high school resume. So yea, 2/3 is not a joke, it's a beginning. And I'm excited to see what happens!

But yes, when you're winning, you're winning. And I get that.

Bradley had a great shooting walk-on in Aaron Zobrist who could have went elsewhere but wanted to play for the Braves. Don't know his history so please enlighten me. If Gavin constantly had great games against D-1 players and pro players, why is he a walk-on at a mid major?

I'll give you his history. Gavin grew up in the Chicago burbs and played AAU ball for years. He has had Chron's disease since middle school, wasn't diagnosed until high school and battled finding treatment that helped at all. He wasn't able to play high school ball because of it. He didn't consider playing ball in college. Went to school for a year and went through some real life stuff, moved back to Chicago.

He got back to playing pick-up in the Chicago area. I was balling with him all winter/spring/summer so have seen the progress. Decent pick-up games led to an invite into a couple great men's leagues. Through those leagues he got into scrimmaging with Northwestern's team 3 days/week in the summer. He got a walk-on offer there too. He trained at a warehouse all summer in the NW Chicago burbs.. I played with him and other D1 athletes and pros there a couple times. He was killing, and working hard every day.

Jimmy is a really genuine person and he's more than just a basketball player. His life experience has given him a perspective on life you rarely find in someone his age. I love talking to him, he's an inspiring guy. He's truly fearless on the court. With his path, it is amazing (and awesome) to me that he is playing mid-major right now. But that excitement also reminds me of his skill. I think he could play anywhere in the country and be a great addition. I also think this is a perfect place for him. Great coach, great team. There's obviously a reason he's not playing and it will happen when it happens. We weren't that far from beating Michigan. I just want to beat teams like Michigan and I know if you put him in on ESPN he will kill, or at least go in without that fear. In case you didn't know, I believe in #30.

It's obvious most of us didn't know his background, just that he was a walk on. Thanks for letting us know. Hope he gets his chance to help the Braves.

Being a sophomore, he could be pretty good by his senior year to possibly get a few minutes per game. He seems to be fairly athletic, but maybe not to the level of the guys coming in next year and the year after. I don't know if he would have the stamina to give 100% for a key role player.

Let's see what lies ahead for the next 2 games. Hopefully our regs can build up a good lead so that Gavin, Bell, and Wells get more experience. These 3 could be be critical next season especially to give the starters a breather and provide a little production. We've seen Geno is not afraid to put in a walk-on to get more minutes than scholly players. I just think that we'll have more talent in the years to come in which Gavin will have to really stand out to get minutes that truly matter.

If this kid Gavin does turn out to be Zobrist-like, we could be a decent 3-point shooting team as early as next year (at least avg. compared to teams in the nation) with Zecevic (Frosh), Grier (Soph), and perhaps Gavin (Jr). Maybe even throw Tucker in there, as he seems to be a capable outside shooter from reports.

I'm glad for Jimmy that he's on the team, and by all accounts is a good guy. That being said, I'm sure that he gets his opportunity to prove himself in practive every day. If he were raining down threes all day, every day, I would have to believe that Geno would find minutes for him.

He may be raining 3s but at this level defense is a key aspect of playing meaningful minutes. There's a reason that another 3 point shooter on the team is not playing. We will though need to start hitting some 3s or we'll be playing on Thursday is my prediction. Its hard to score when a team is playing zone for extended periods if you can't shoot over it.

Jimmy hasn't played actual organized basketball in how many years? Give him a year to get into the flow of things. Anything he gives you in the next few years is a huge plus from a non-scholarship guy.
