It must be working OK now for this post to appear, but I can't explain what happened to your other attempts.

I've hooped with Gavin. I'm not talking about a kid who gets a lucky shot off that means nothing to the game. I've seen him hit deep game winners. Consistently run the court against D1 athletes and pro ballers at gyms in Chicago. That's why he walked on without a high school resume. So yea, 2/3 is not a joke, it's a beginning. And I'm excited to see what happens!
But yes, when you're winning, you're winning. And I get that.

He got back to playing pick-up in the Chicago area. I was balling with him all winter/spring/summer so have seen the progress. Decent pick-up games led to an invite into a couple great men's leagues. Through those leagues he got into scrimmaging with Northwestern's team 3 days/week in the summer. He got a walk-on offer there too. He trained at a warehouse all summer in the NW Chicago burbs.. I played with him and other D1 athletes and pros there a couple times. He was killing, and working hard every day.
Jimmy is a really genuine person and he's more than just a basketball player. His life experience has given him a perspective on life you rarely find in someone his age. I love talking to him, he's an inspiring guy. He's truly fearless on the court. With his path, it is amazing (and awesome) to me that he is playing mid-major right now. But that excitement also reminds me of his skill. I think he could play anywhere in the country and be a great addition. I also think this is a perfect place for him. Great coach, great team. There's obviously a reason he's not playing and it will happen when it happens. We weren't that far from beating Michigan. I just want to beat teams like Michigan and I know if you put him in on ESPN he will kill, or at least go in without that fear. In case you didn't know, I believe in #30.

He has had Chron's disease since middle school, wasn't diagnosed until high school and battled finding treatment that helped at all. He wasn't able to play high school ball because of it. He didn't consider playing ball in college. Went to school for a year and went through some real life stuff, moved back to Chicago.

Let's see what lies ahead for the next 2 games. Hopefully our regs can build up a good lead so that Gavin, Bell, and Wells get more experience. These 3 could be be critical next season especially to give the starters a breather and provide a little production. We've seen Geno is not afraid to put in a walk-on to get more minutes than scholly players. I just think that we'll have more talent in the years to come in which Gavin will have to really stand out to get minutes that truly matter.
If this kid Gavin does turn out to be Zobrist-like, we could be a decent 3-point shooting team as early as next year (at least avg. compared to teams in the nation) with Zecevic (Frosh), Grier (Soph), and perhaps Gavin (Jr). Maybe even throw Tucker in there, as he seems to be a capable outside shooter from reports.
