Walt has a ton of talent. He could become a 1st team MVC player if he limits his TOs and I believe he could also improve his assist average in doing so. Right now he's not been consistent for 40 minutes. The good thing is that the season is early."Educate and inform the whole mass of the people...they are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

In regards to Walt - It's great to see Walt playing so well! I remember his left-handed dunk early in the season.. best play of the year so far. Walt is a great player and I think he's going to continue to get better. The kid can score and can get to the bucket. I disagree that he can't be 1st team MVC at PG. If his attitude and court vision improve I can see him being 1st team MVC at PG for sure. I think he is a good enough athlete to play professionally one day. He definitely has that raw talent. That said, I don't think he's a pure enough shooter to play 2-guard although I could see Geno playing him at 2 with Fields. It will be awesome to see Fields in action. He would have been the starting PG at Wake this year and I think he'll be heavy in the mix next year.
I'm going to stand behind my call that #30 (Jimmy Gavin) is the best shooter on our team and we need to see more of him. I think we'll see him starting at 2-guard by next year and if he gets any time this year we'll be seeing at least one breakout game. If you give that kid 30 minutes, he'll get 20+ points and you might see a windmill dunk. He's another athlete like Walt who has a lot of raw talent. I played with him this summer.. he scored 45 points in the championship game of one of the best men's leagues in Chicago. He practiced with Northwestern's team all summer and got a walk-on offer there too. Believe it when you see it! I've already seen it.Last edited by bukid12; 12-10-2012, 12:31 AM.

It must be working OK now for this post to appear, but I can't explain what happened to your other attempts.

It'll be real fun to watch WL at the 2 next year, and he will probably still get some PG minutes. If he can somehow improve that jump shot by next year so it has to be honored by defenses more, he can be a real force. When he stays within himself is when he is at his best, sometimes he tries to do a little too much.
Not to get off topic, but since it was mentioned, with our need for shooters, does anyone know what is keeping Jimmy Gavin out of games? Is there an area of his game he is still working on?

Also he is not the traditional walk-on in that he did not get to play his last two years of high school, so if he had who knows what would have happened in terms of his game and subsequent recognition. Even without playing for those last 2 years of high school and about 4 years overall he earned a walk-on spot and a little bit of playing time so far, so for me there is a little more intrigue there than the average walk-on.
