It is likely he did not like being benched and had a falling out with his new coach.

Men's Basketball player Antonio Bryer leaves team for personal reasons
Dec. 3, 2012
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University men's basketball coach Barry Hinson announced today that forward
Antonio Bryer has left the team for personal reasons.
Bryer, a 6-foot-6 sophomore from Norview, Va., has played in four games and started three for the Salukis this season.
He was averaging 5.0 points and 2.0 rebounds, while shooting .625 from the field. Hinson said he had made as much progress
as any player on the team since last season.
"Antonio made valuable contributions on the court, he led our team with a 3.4 grade point average, and I'm confident he has a
bright future ahead of him," Hinson said. "He will always be a part of our Saluki Basketball family and we wish him nothing but the best."
Did something change?

His name was removed from the Men's basketball roster page on the official website yesterday (that was quick).
However, today, it has reappeared on the roster-
That would seem to suggest something was worked out and he will be staying with the team.

Bryer reinstated to SIU team-
SIU's bizarre men's basketball season took another turn earlier today ,when Saluki coach Barry Hinson announced forward Antonio Bryer had been reinstated to the team and could play Wednesday night at Western Kentucky
So he quits the team, and announces he is leaving SIU- he and his mother, and Barry all agreed it was best for him to leave- but then he is suddenly reinstated, and will not even miss a single game? Will Barry start him too? Maybe he will make him the team captain for such gallant behavior!

Unfortunately, today I made the tough decision to give up basketball entirely due to chronic knee injuries.
