For the week ending December 9, I think the choice is an easy one....
Sure Jackie Carmichael, Jordan Prosser, & Marc Sonnen each had good games but Doug McDermott was clearly the best play over the whole week - so unless the guys who decide at MVC want to go for the underdog I think McDermott is clearly this week's Player of the Week in the Valley
The Newcomer will likely be one of the Wichita State new guys Cleanthony Early or Nick Wiggins - both had good games Saturday, but it could be someone else....
Creighton's Doug McDermott is indeed the MVC Player of the Week once again!
Congrats - it's his 8th such award - he's closing in on Hersey Hawkins' record of 14
BTW -- here's a coincidence -
Blake Griffin wins the NBA Player of the Week award at the exact same time that his brother
Taylor Griffin wins one of the NBDL (D-League) PLayer of the Week awards
The National Basketball Association today announced that Los Angeles Clippers’ power forward Blake Griffin has been named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, December 3rd, through Sunday, December 9th. Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks earned the honor for the Eastern Conference.
The Newcomer of the Week is Evansville's DJ Balentine - got 15 ppg in a couple games this past week even tho Evansville lost one of them -
BTW -- Doug McDermott is averaging 22.7 ppg - good for 5th best in D-I
but the list of top scorers has a LARGE number of mid-major kids...
#1 CJ McCollum from Lehigh
#3 Kyle Vinales from Central CT State
#4 James Kinney from Vermont
#5 McDermott
#6 Darren White from Campbell
plus the guys at # 8, 9, 10 (Isaiah Canaan), 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18 (Corey Hawkins of UCD), 19, & 20 ( Nate Wolters of S. Dakota St.) are all guys from mid-majors........16 of the top 20 scorers!!!
In a rare situation, this week's player of the week in the MVC goes to a player whose team lost their only game this past week.
In fact the Aces got killed by 17 at Creighton...in a game McDermott goes for 29 pts & 10 rebs...
Plus - I kinda thought Dyricus' 8-steal performance (to go with 20 pts - twice as many as Taylor scored) might have been a winner - that is also a pretty rare & impressive accomplishment and it helped us win a game.
Evansville's Troy Taylor is POW
Cleanthony Early of Wichita is Newcomer of the Week...
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.
Tuttle's UNI Panthers lost to Indiana State then beat ISU with Tuttle going for
24 & 10 against the Sycs & 19 & 7 against the Redbirds
Last week's POW Troy Taylor helped his Evansville Aces to TWO wins and averaged 8 pts & 13 rebs for the week
Cleanthony Early had only 11 & 2 against Drake to go with 24 & 4
McDermott averaged 20 pts/9 rebs
Our best player would be Walt who went for 20 pt/4 reb/4 asst & 15 pt/8 rebs/5 asst
More:
Dyricus Simms-Edwards has 3.3 steals per game - still 2nd nationally but his 49 steals tie for #1 nationally

Indiana State's Lucas Eitel is #21 nationally in 3-pt shooting at .513
Evansville's Colt Ryan is 9th nationally in FT shooting at .918, Corey Hawkins is 12th at .910
