Drake does win at Nevada -- 76-66

one other interesting game last nite - televised on ESPN...
Tennessee lost at Georgetown 37-36 in a very ugly game...
shooting percentages were very low, they two teams combined to shoot 4-23 from the three-point line and only 7-20 combined from the FT line

Both teams have a roster full of star recruits...

The MVC conference RPI jumped after this weekend's games, and they are now ranked 9th in conference RPI.-
2012-2013 Men's College Basketball Conference RPI (Rating Percentage Index) - a ranking of conference based on the average RPI of the teams in the conference, plus non-conference wins and losses, the best teams and automatic bids from the conferences.

What is surprising is how far down the CAA, CUSA, Horizon, MAC, and other conferences are this year.

Bradley is currently 5th in the MVC in RPI rank-

Bradley's SOS jumped all the way up to 159th-
2012-2013 Men's College Basketball Strength of Schedule (SOS): a measure of a team's strength of schedule or schedule strength compare to other teams' schedules. opponents' wins, losses, and winning percentage are also included.

Here are the SOS numbers for the 10 MVC teams- not so good this year, none in the top 80.
      Wichita State 84
      Illinois State 85
      Creighton 87
      Missouri St. 125
      Bradley 159
      Drake 172
      Indiana St. 183
      Southern Ill. 227
      Northern Iowa 243
      Evansville 244

wow - not one with a current RPI good enough to expect an at-large bid!

I think tornado was looking at the SOS and mistaking it for the RPI numbers.

            Here are the MVC RPIs-

            Wichita State 12
            Creighton 49
            Illinois State 59
            Southern Ill. 82
            Bradley 103
            Indiana St. 149
            Drake 179
            Evansville 191
            Northern Iowa 243

              You would hope so but..............
              - can you find me an example of any other team with an RPI of 87 that ever got an at-large bid in the 32 years or so that the NCAA has been using the RPI?
(the lowest (worst) RPI ever invited with an at-large bid was 63)
I am unaware of it ever happening and I also know that some of the best RPI's that have ever been excluded were MVC teams (ask Barry Hinson - he owns the record having been left out with an RPI of 21)

Not a surprise that Horizon RPI takes a big hit losing Butler this year to the A10. MVC is going to have a challenge moving up to 7 and 8 again.

I'm feelin' pretty good about 2 bids for the Valley now, WSU and Creighton can separate. The heck with ISU.

I'd say we're still in a big battle for 9th with the WCC.

RPI keeps getting de-emphasized by the committee - who ironically says your own RPI doesn't matter but the RPI of your opponents does (hypocritical, my god). But needless to say, if you have an 80 RPI, it's because you've absorbed too many bad losses and/or have a bad schedule, so naturally they won't get bids.

I'm feeling good about ending with 3 Top 50 RPI teams, so WSU and CU will get 4 Top 50 games in conference play. I think ISU ends up there too, but as I said before, screw 'em.

UNI is the disappointment. SIU and BU will do good to last in the top 150. My big worry is InSU and DU and EU just have enough dents to prevent them from creating top 100 RPI win opportunities for each other.

Not too shabby for BU and SIU! I would have thought they'd both be in the 200s at this point in the season.

Yes, UNI had a bad game vs. Stanford, which affected them in their last game of the tourney. They are still a team to be reckoned with, but their scoring needs to improve bigtime.

I think that InSU, DU, and UE will beat each other up - these 3 are the middle-pack teams that will likely hover between 120 and 150 I imagine.

Agreed regarding ISU, especially considering their terrible loss tonight at home to Wyoming where ISU was outscored 52-24 in the second half! NCAA Tournament teams don't play like that at home!

With all my attention on the Valley RPI, I just now realized we have two top 25 teams in the Valley again, with CU down to #16 while WSU enters at #24 this week. Not too shabby! I was happy to see these two teams ranked at the same time late last season, but to have this occur this early in the season is a great accomplishment for the Valley, and it shows it's getting serious attention from the voters. But I am disappointed UNI and/or ISU could not do their part to rank higher, though UNI still has several chances for quality wins the rest of this month. They have a home game against George Mason, a neutral site game against Iowa, and road games against UNLV, St. Mary's and Wichita St. coming up. So they have a great chance to play themselves into top 25 contention before the end of the year.

and yet after a couple years of landing 4-Star and even 5-Star stud recruits....and having some holdover blue-chippers from Bruce Pearl...
                          Cuonzo is doing horribly.......

Virginia even played very poorly and tried to give this game away - shooting only 35% and just 12% from 3-pt
This is the 3rd loss where they've scored 45 pts or less, and despite a lot of really cushy cupcakes on their schedule they're averaging only 61.4 ppg - and that could drop when they get into tough SEC play!

the two busiest threads on their message boards are "Cuonzo has to go"...then a discussion on who should replace him...

                          and the thread titled
"When does Bruce Pearl's show cause penalty end" .. asking when is Pearl's NCAA penalty over so they can hire him back ASAP and get rid of Cuonzo.

This is about the time of year to look at the RPI to get a good feel of how teams are doing.
With UNI at 180, you would think they were like 4-5 insted of 6-3. The #6-#8 teams are disappointing, as you would like them all to be at least 150 or better.

I didn't think Indy St. would be that good anyways with lack of depth, and thought we'd be about the same level as them before the year began.
Evansville and Drake should be contending for possibly a top 4 spot this year, but they're mediocre at best so far.
Phelps is definitely on the hot seat if he doesn't finish Top 5 in the Valley.
