  • #11 UCLA loses at home to Cal Poly

A late game last night- Cal Poly of the Big West Conference upset UCLA at Pauley Pavilion 70-68-

UCLA lead 51-33 with 12 minutes left in the game, but Cal Poly, who had been averaging only 59 points per game, got hot from three (7-9 in the final 12 minutes) and came back to win.
UCLA Coach Ben Howland was on the hot seat last year after a 14 loss season, and after missing the NCAA tournament 2 of the last 3 years, but he had a great recruiting class. They top 2 scorers are freshmen, and they have only 1 senior on the roster, so I think they will bounce back OK. Cal Poly was picked 7th in the Big West preseason poll. They start 2 Chicago area kids.

Junior Tyler Lamb is also leaving and transferring - rated as a Top 40 kid out of HS but another kid who is disenchanted with the current HC at UCLA
UCLA guard Tyler Lamb has been granted his release from the UCLA basketball team and will transfer, the school announced Sunday.

Lovely! Let's see how overrated the Pac 12 will be this year! I think they will be a lot better at the top, but there is still a lot of mediocrity in the middle and the bottom of that league.

Nice game for true Freshman, Brian Bennett. This kid remade his body between his jr and sr of high school at Plainfield East. Made dramatic enough improvement that's he's garnering 30+ minutes against UCLA. Saw him several times at the Pekin Tourney.

Sure would look nice in a BU inform...

UCLA thinking of replacing coach Ben Howland, maybe before the end of the season.
