  • ISU vs. Northwestern

ISU is playing Northwestern for the championship of the South Padre Island Tournament. It's been a great game. Tyler Brown sunk 2 long threes in the final minute to tie the game at 55-55 and it is now in overtime. The game is televised on the CBSSports Network.

Here are all the MVC games Saturday- Bradley is the only mVC team to win so far-

Northwestern pulls away in overtime, thanks in part to an untimely flagrant foul call on Jackie Carmichael, and they beat ISU 72-69 . It is ISU's first loss of the year. Tyler Brown was unbelieveable with 33 points (7-13 on threes). Fallout. (correction: 36 points)

That makes the MVC 1-4 today, with one more game to go. Creighton is playing Arizona State at 10 PM for the championship of the Las Vegas Invitational (on ESPNU).

Too bad for ISU as Northwestern is again a marginal threat for an NCAA Tournament bid. Though I don't quite mind this loss as Northwestern is one of my local teams up where I live. But hopefully ISU gets some quality wins before the conference season starts up.

They now have a shot at Louisville next week, who are about to lose a close game to Duke. Had Louisville won tonight, that would have been two top 5 teams playing the Valley on Saturday! Though they may stay in the top 5 after losing to another top 5 team.

Actually Tyler Brown had 36 but a very costly turnover when ISU was only a single possession from tying it at the end..

A couple observations - ISU missed many opportunities at the FT line and were just 10-20, with Jackie Carmichael just 3-10! Carmichael also had 6 turnovers & Keane and Brown had 5 each....and the T on Carmichael definitely came at the wrong time.

Lastly in reading the comments from ISU fans I saw an irony -- one poster remarking about the flopping going on by Northwestern players...then another guy commenting they saw Mike Vandegarde in the crowd at the game...probably only Nacho & cpacmel will see the irony in that

I hate ISU and I hate NU's sobelewski (sp?) and I think that late technical on ISU was garbage.

I still remember one ISU game at CC when the students stood during intros and they all flopped when Vandegarde was announced.....it was great

The preseason No. 2 Valley team should beat the preseason No. 10 B1G team almost every time. NW is not any better than expected, meaning either ISU is not the 2nd best team or the Valley is not as strong as expected.

Well, when they go 10 for 20 from the FT line, no shock there!
