  • One note on Conference Realignment - West Virginia now in the Big12

Not sure all the reasons - maybe it was mostly football related.... but West Virginia is now in the Big 12...
..so they are going to be doing a whole lot of travelling out west and they got a test of how a team plays when it crosses a few time zones east to west...

In fact - head coach Bob Huggins just gave an interview saying he thinks the transition will be easier than most think because he knows the Big 12..

but way out west...WVU played at Gonzaga last night and got absolutely annihilated..
Gonazaga led 45-18 at half and ended up winning by 84-50 -
but led by 20-30 for much of the game...

Highly touted Juwan Staten who bolted from Dayton and jumped to West Virginia was 0-6 and did practically nothing in 34 minutes - only one assist (he's their PG!)
WVU's Matt Humphrey - a well travelled guy who Bradley was once after - went 1-7 from the arc!
For Gonzaga..SIU's & Memphis transfer Drew Barham also went scoreless.

gotta think Bob Huggins is wondering...

Hey -- you know, Gonzaga is a mid-major...and didn't Huggins just recently make the preposterous claim
that the mid-majors should compete in a separate post-season tournament and not even be allowed into the NCAA Tourney?
Hey Bob -- when you get the foot out of your mouth and the egg off your face - tell us how you really feel

I think West Virginia got snookered. At the time they went, the rumors were strong that the Big 12 was going back to 12 teams, and a couple of BEast teams, most notably Louisville, were very hot on the radar.

However, details are leaking out about the new college football playoff system, and the Big East literally got left behind. With the amount of money involved, it is completely worth it for WVU to sacrifice all geographic rivalries and considerations to be in the Big 12 just for the football money.

Yeah, I love it when major program coaches end up with their foot in their mouth after they make stupid statements like that! Did he not remember the recent runs by Butler, VCU, Northern Iowa, George Mason, and even Bradley and Wichita St. not that long ago? Apparently not! Oh, and I forgot Ohio within one possession of the Elite Eight last year too. Oh, and how about those two 15 seeds that won in the first round of the NCAA tourney last year? No, I guess he forgot about those too.

I think Gonzaga may finally have that Butler like run this year to the Final Four, though I have been waiting for that over the past decade. But this year Gonzaga is scary good, and last night's game showed that. Right Bob?!

The SEC would trounce WVU... the Big 12 was there best chance at actually competing...

It sounds like they tried, but just got outmanuevered by Missouri for that spot.
