Thats a great question. I've always assumed that it was mostly related to the official scorer's perspective and/or judgement. Kind of like a hit or error in baseball.

I agree with the first part of your statement. I know a number of die-hard fans who skipped this game, more out of protest to the idea of holding one game out of the season ticket package and charging another $20 per ticket for it.
But holding extra tickets for students who didn't show up had little to do with the low attendance. According to Dave Reynolds' article this morning, 1,200 tickets were set aside for students, and well less than half that number showed up (I think it was even less than 25%). There were still a ton of tickets available to the public, so holding tickets for students (and they were the worst seats, the ones in the south corner sections) would not have caused anyone to be unable to attend the game. Plus, those student tickets would have been made available to the general public if that was necessary, which it wasn't.

Agreed. He can't fill the left lane on a break.

This should have been a 30 point win game. The defensive rebounding has to get better.

          Nice to see 22 assists.

I like the fact that we didn't play a great game and still won by 17. That's encouraging. The passing is the best I've seen in years, but our perimeter/help defense and rebounding are still huge areas of concern.

A couple of comments. Attendance was really bad. If there were 2,500 people in there, I would be surprised as the place was half empty. There were plenty of tickets available as my brother bought 3 tickets directly across from the Bradley bench 4 rows down from the top on the aisle at the Luncheon yesterday. I think we left the arena with 10 extra shirts since the whole North section was pretty much empty.

A comment on the fast breaks misses by Prosser. It's really a terrible situation as Lemon had the ball and could not go right to finish the fast break play, and Prosser had trouble finishing from the left side, so just a bad situation for both players. At least Prosser realized he should dunk it finally and tried to do so on the last break and got fouled.

It was my first time seeing Bradley this year, and the game was never in doubt which is encouraging from the past couple of years. We'll definitely be more competitive, but will struggle to get out of the play-in game unless we can get someone besides Egolf to knock down some 3's.

                    Player Control Foul?

Towards the end of the first half, WL drove to the basket and was called for a charge. They counted the basket, but then put the other team on the line for a 1 and 1. I thought this was a player control foul and the ball should have been inbounded instead of free throws being awarded? I bring this up because it ended up working great for BU as the other team missed the front end of a one and one and BU took it down and scored right away to extend their lead and keep the momentum going. If I??™m correct, how did all the refs and staff miss this? If I??™m wrong, I guess I need to refresh myself on the rules.

It??™s nice to see back to back double digit wins, even if the competition wasn??™t the greatest. Shayok was 3-3 from the field, but looked a little rusty to me. We??™ll need quality minutes from him this year to be successful. I do like that he isn??™t being relied upon to be the starter so far this year. I absolutely love WE hitting 3??™s and still thought TP had a positive presence even without scoring many points. I think he did force a few shots of his shots. I also feel like we are getting a better rotation and that??™s helping with fouls and energy level. I??™m curious how tight that rotation will get in closer games.

RANT - I absolutely hated the price point for my tickets. Why don??™t they sell them for $10 and pack the place? Would slashing the prices in half even have made a difference? I like how close we are to the action in the campus arena, but that sound system is embarrassing. It sounds like broken iPOD speakers.

Is that the play that Dave and Chad were aghast because the defender was inside the arc? Why have an arc if you don't make calls based on it?

I thought the crowd was embarrassingly low. On the video feed it looked like no one was there. And they mentioned on the radio a couple of times that the crowd never got into the game.

The cash grab needs to stop.

there is confusion on this rule -- it applies largely to a secondary defender (a guy who wasn't originally guarding the ballhandler but who steps in and takes the charge)
If you charge into your primary defender (the guy guarding the ballhandler even if he backs him down into the arc)
then the arc is of little consequence...and thus
a primary defender - as was the case on Monday - can still draw a charge in there.

"this applies only to the secondary defender. The primary defender is defined as facing the player with the ball...The secondary defender is defined as picking up the offensive player."

Sad that one of the Braves all time greats wasn't honored at the court he performed so well on instead of in front of 3100. This admin has no idea of Bradley basketball history. If they do they don't respect it.
